Organisation of albion

First thing to say: this is not a rant, nor does it intend to place blame. This post is simply my observations. Call me a n00b or whatever...

We have been fighting the Middies in the frontier for several days solidly and they have now held Erasleigh for a significant amount of time. Hats off to them for that... And a good effort by our Albion comrades to retake it... However we can't ignore the fact that we simply are not getting the numbers of albs to retake it.

I for one would like to see a lot more guilds involved in the retake attempts than have been. Whether it has been thru a lack of communication or whatever. It is a matter of time before Midgard stage a relic attempt from Erasleigh and if we lose the relics it will effect everyone in the realm in a negative way. Lets all pull together eh?

mids appear to be often taking beno, eras, maybe another keep, and doing nothing more... for the last couple of weeks they have taken one or two of those keeps, bumped it high, and shoved 70+ mids inside and defended.

i've been on two "retakes" of 70+ mid defended keeps and both times the retakes got absolutely nowhere with around 70-120 albs present.

unless mids are actually a threat to excal i fail to see the point in feeding their RP farming sessions in eras. as soon as they are a threat to excal you will see my on my main, at excal, defending (and most likely, hypocritically, feeding their RP farm session at eras after! :p)

I'm with Jenkz on this.

The corpse summoner was intended to make taking relics easier. It wasn't meant to allow you an easy way to return to a keep that you're defending and, in fact, takes some of the fun/challenge out of it.

Can't wait for the CS changes in 1.60 (no RPs for 30 mins after doing /transfercorpse etc.).

Eras was retaken late last night/early this morning on a ninja raid. Undoubtedly Mids will moan about this - but they have done exactly the same thing when we've been farming them with corpse summoners the last few weeks.

Naah, we won't whine. We are just smiling when we see that your efforts are so lame that you must take regular keeps at night :)

To be frank...what I find more 'lame' is that Mid RVR has deteriote into taking a keep....sitting inside it for hours...and logging countless alts inside....to be logged on at a hint of danger.

This is not an insult...more of a moan at the state of RVR with Corpse Summoners set up as they are in the game.

We ran round odins last night...desserted......tried Emain...same.........all hadrians wall empty......finally my 1.5 group went to eras...ooh lok...lots of mids.

Wish GOA would actually do some forward thinking of their own one day and pre fix things like this that actually matter.

And mids....if you are going to have 70 people sat inside a keep...and also have the backyup of countless alts logged inside...in case an alb plan catches u undefended....please dont be surprised if the keep is taken at a late/early hour. Your new method(Goas fault) only incites this kind of RVR.

(note...not really intended as a moan at mids..more directed at GOA not pre fixing small things ......that make a huge difference).

whats so lame about a ninja raid, if realms in a state of war then a nija commando raid to take a keep is good plan. mids done plenty raids late at night when they think people wont be about.

I can see the point you Albs are making about us Mids controlling a keep in your realm with help from a CS which might not have been the whole idea of the CS to begin with. However, I think that most Mids intentions are not to just camp inside the keep and defend it for a couple of times each day. That would not be very fun in the long run. Ofcourse people that are playing alt chars etc are logging in their main chars that are in the keep to defend if getting attacked, but not many are seriously just hanging around in the keep all day long.

Personally I have looked at Eras as a great platform to organize groups and then roam around the whole Alb frontier for some fun RvR against both Albs and Hibs. The advantage of this imo is that it´s easy to set up smaller groups for fun RvR when already being inside the frontier. Otherwise we´re right back to the old sucky MG-camping style a la Emain again, which makes it almost impossible to get through a MG to share some fun RvR in small groups vs small groups without using a big zerg to force through the campers. So I at least see some upsides of it aswell and I´m also welcoming Albs/Hibs to hold a keep in our frontier for some time if it means that we´ll see an increase of good RvR action in smaller groups within the frontier. After all...I play this game for the fun of it, and I don´t have much fun running around in big zergs or being totally flattened by one every time I´m going out for some fun close encounters and thrilling fights in smaller groups.

Usually because many just want to have some fun time in the froniter as mentioned above and the keep is a good platform to start out from.

Defended keeps = zergs of attackers. More so with corpse summoners. Even if you zerg a well defended keep, there's no guarentee of taking it, so the defenders get lots of RPs and the attackers log out in a huff.

Sneak attacks or attacking at unusual hours is often the only sure way of reclaiming the keep. It takes out the fun of the event, but so does having 150+ players in the area lagging your PC to death and resulting in you being farmed.

Just as a heads up: I used to be part of Cutting Edge on Mid/Excal. A small group of us (6 to 8 mids) used to plague the alb homelands every night and often take 1 or 2 keeps, particularly Renaris. After a while the albs got fed up of retaking (and getting farmed to a certain extent...well I was a shaman with nasty dot). They got to the point of not retaking keeps quickly...lo and behold mids then used this as a platform to take relics.

Keep the defence up. No one likes being farmed of course and 1.60 will make farming less attractive, but keep an eye out for possible relic raids.

my point was that you are doing nothing more than having fun, you're not making serious attempts at the str relics so the original posters point of lack of organisation and swift defensive retakes on the side of albion is kind of pointless (as you have proven), as recent mid capture-and-hold-farming is not a threat to the str relics until you are on or around the doors of excal.

i think the debate is more of should everyone, in lairds terms, "call to arms" at the first sign of a fallen keep in albion. my answer to that is: everyone is an individual and will play a recreational game as they please. if they want to attempt to retake a single keep defended by 70 mids they will, if they dont want to, they wont. 300 people decided they wanted to help defend excal vs hib+mids the other night, so its not as if people dont make the effort when it is required.

To be honest I wish people would launch more relic raid attempts. I love them!

XP'ing away in some dungeon and the call goes up from group to group, in alliance chats, in guild chats, just plain yelled out that a relic raid is underway and huge numbers of people just drop whatever they're doing and run for the horses. Streams of players on horseback heading for the portals & frontiers, great fun :) It's when the relic raids take place that DaoC most feels like a proper community game imo, yeah, mids & hibs, more relic raids please

... and now we have the ultimate relic defence, the server crash. Hay hibs its your fault, the more people you send, the more people come to defend :p

Aye i enjoy it... right up until u get to the relic keep... then your pc stops and u cant enjoy whats actually happening :(

I have a pretty nice PC spec too, yet daoc still struggles, a major floor in mythics game design. if it was truly made for large or small rvr combat (obviously large to some extent otherwise relics wouldnt be as hard as they are now) then they shoulda made it so that someone with an average pc can achieve more than 1fps.

That's very true, and it hasn't got much better with the new graphics engine with SI :( To be fair though it's a difficult problem. The only engine I really know that handles large numbers of entities on screen at the same time is the Serious Sam engine and I doubt that kind of technology would work well for an MMO :/
