one person says hauberks, the other says avernal malison longsword

For Albs, Avernal Malison Longswords cost 15 seals. The diamond helmets worth 18 seals make about 10s less per item.

What about Sapphire though ?

The longswords cost 15 diamonds and salvage to 100 bars too,
the equivalent sapphire weapon costs 21 sapphires but salvages to 47 bars, best farming diamonds imo.
