Optical Mouse prob'

In an attempt to prevent sticking mouse problems, I purchased a MS Explorer Optical mouse (£45.00) as I was fed up with cleaning my ball mice all the time.
Altough I have installed the correct drivers, I find that the pointer dances about the screen slightly, even when I'm not touching it. Furthermore it is prone to move erractically when I try to point to links and things on my desktop.

If anyone else uses this mouse, what kind of surface do you use it on ?

I would sugest you check to see if there is any dust on the 'eye' even just a small amount thats hard see can cause that. Also shiny surfaces can cause problems. Get a decent mouse pad. I have the Everglide Giganta, its amazing for gaming. It actually did make me better. It will last forever as well and very easy to wipe clean. Well worth the money and they look quite cool too.

Yeah, I got a ratpad - same idea, bit like a chopping board. Just don't buy a white one - you're mouse might not work.

The clicking links thing is because the mouse is so sensitive - I find i just have to take it easy on the links, or you could make sure that the mouse acceleration is set higher/lower, according to taste.

And the dancing is normally dust.

Thank you all very much for your suggestions.
I gave the mouse a blast of compressed air and I stuck a piece of A4, with a print out of Carl Fogarty at nurburgring to my desk.
Now, I have no problems.

Thanx again :D
