I've used the following OS:

1. Windows 3.1
2. Windows 3.11
3. Windows 95
4. Windows 98
5. Windows 98SE
6. Windows NT4
7. Windows ME
8. Windows 2000 Pro
9. Windows XP

I've also dabbled with Linux but with W2K Pro I decided that I no longer need to worry about the old problems of stability that existed under Win9x series of OSes so picked it as my one and only OS.

bah there's an OS forum for this Embattle ;)

I've used these:

  • several different versions of DOS
  • OS/2 Warp [version 2 iirc, long time ago heh]
  • WfW 3[ish..wasn't that 3.10?]
  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98 [regular and SE]
  • WindowsNT 4.0 [workstation and server]
  • Novell Netware [3.12, 4.11, 5.0 and 5.1] this is server-only stuff tho
  • MacOS [several versions]
  • SCO Unix
  • AIX
  • HP-UX
  • Windows2000 [Pro]
  • Sun Solaris [2.6 and 2.8]
  • FreeBSD and OpenBSD
  • Several different Linux distributions

My OS of choice is Linux. Right now I use the RedHat and Slackware distro's. I also use FreeBSD. [edit] Might be worth mentioning that I hold certifications from microsoft, Novell and Sun. They don't really mean very much to me: I like to see what one can do, not the papers one has.[/edit]

  • WFW I believe was 3.11. God I remember getting OS/2 warp too, what a mind fuck that was.

Everyone had to use DOS for playing games and had to fook around to get as much of the 640k base memory just to run the game....often a boot disk was required :)

So it is, and of course its entirely my fault for not having read the previous thread before this, which you so obviously mention reference to in this one.

Its my moronic fault because you didn't make an attempt to link the two, in either thread (as of now)

Get down off your high horse.

lol, I've still got some Warp-servers running about at workies heh. Long live the management idiots who purchase a tool without consulting the IT guys and totally forget to ask what OS it runs on heh.

Silly ignorant petty lame coding fucknuts

It's not the peeps who code Linux who do this tho dudeh. Still I agree [partly] distro-wars suck arse, just like desktop-wars. I mean, muy cool we have all that choice ea., but the peeps did get slightly carried away if you ask me.

we're talking about this heh

Ah yes, this old bean.
You're quite right, I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about linux in relation to it's being free, while you were in fact talking about linux being 'unpopular' even though it's free.

Hmmm, that's a good one actually. I have no idea why. Perhaps it's due to the way it all started off, or the way that linux is open or even because the actual thing that is linux is made by a group of "hackers" and not by some company with large marketing department.

Anyway, I don't debate the issue anymore. In fact, I really don't care what OS you run. I'm not going to argue linux vs. microsoft at 02:00 in the am. Either use it or don't. I use it, and it works perfectly fine [unless you want to watch quicktime mov's heh. Apple are such bitches.] for me. I can play games, I can do my internet thing, office thing whatever.

Of course, if you chose not to use linux, but to run ms or mac software you should accept the consequences of your decision no? I mean you actualy bought windows2000 or whatever it is you run right? And msoffice right?
I own a copy of windowsNT4, it ran nicely and I still use it sometimes [like when I want to watch some quicktime ie. the LOTR trailer ea.] but my OS of choice is linux.

Nope technically I got W2K free and office xp :)

However I just have so much stuff now that runs on Win platforms its not worth the effect.

Next year I might get hold of a cheap notebook and test Linux on it :)

From a sentimental point of view, my favourite OS is still DOS 6.2.

From a stability point of view, my favourite OS is still NT 4.

From an everyday point of view, I'll stick with XP.

Well I started using PC's for the first time during the dieing days of Windows 3.11

I got my first computer with Windows 95 then when on to...

Windows 95/a/b/c
Windows 98/se
Linux SuSE 5.1 (iirc)
Windows NT4
Windows 2000
Windows XP/home/pro

I never really tried ME as I'd already moved on to 2000

I hope to be going back and trying Linux to set up a little network, but I'm gonna need to look at that more sometime :)

Three male programmers were in the bathroom standing at the urinals. The first programmer finishes, walks over to the sink to wash his hands. He then proceeds to dry his hands very carefully. He uses paper towel after paper towel and ensures that every single spot of water on his hands is dried. Turning to the other two, he says, "At Microsoft, we are trained to be extremely thorough." The second programmer finishes his task at the urinal and he proceeds to wash his hands. He uses a single paper towel and makes sure that he dries his hands using every available portion of the paper towel. He turns and says, "At Intel not only are we trained to be extremely thorough but we are also trained to be extremely efficient." The third programmer finished and walks straight for the door, shouting over his shoulder, "At Linux, we don`t piss on our hands.
