After some thought, I'm considering doing an OU in Computing. I've worked in the industry for almost 8 years from beining an Apprentice to doing 2nd / 3rd line support.

Anyway, has anyone done an OU? Hows easy is it to work through?

The Course I've been looking through is this one

Anyway, apologies for something serious... just wanted to check around before commiting £4k :)

:worthy:

I've never did any OU stuff, but that looks like a solid computing course :)

its a very nice course,
but dont take it lightly it is VERY long because there is a limit to what you can do in a year, and for a full degree you need to do all the required units.
So before you start paying make sure you are prepared to put the time in.
I personally went to a university part-time course, it is alot more intensive but its only 4 years

Well my thought behind it is that it might take a while to do, but I could do it in my own time and with every single job I go for, there is some reference to 'someone with a Degree would be beneficial' - plus I could get an instant pay-rise from work for having a degree.

I'll do the time and see how it goes, I'm not looking for something quick to get me money... but planning ahead. Years ago, a degree was just not possible but having mulled over it for several years now, its something I would love to do.

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

if your in a full time job and you complete an OU degree its 'worth' alot more than a standard degree due to the fact that show commitment and willingness to work outside of work hours and also a drive to better yourself

Yeah, luckily most of the Uni's are a short bus hop from either work or home

OU is very expensive, so only do it if you're sure you want to do it, and if the monetary rewards you'd get for having a degree are worth it.

I'd say its no more expensive than anything else you do now ;)

I've looked at specific courses, say an MCSE or such and to be honest... I'd more likely get bored very quickly on doing 1 specific subject.

OU just appeals to me more, casual time and can do the most part of it at work (they are good like that ;) )
