Yet another night at my nightshift work, with nothing better to do than dream and think.

I payed my grandmother/father a visit last night, for a nice meal and a chat. Exciting as always listing to them tell about their views on the world and experiences.

But my grandfather started to tell me about his many trips to Norway, the last one in an age of 71 - he just turned 80. Where he would walk alone, or with a friend(or his son, my uncle). The trips would last a week or two and they would just walk around in the "mountains" with nothing but a backpack with the most needed equipment.

So I started thinking about if that would be something for me to do. Since I passed my first year at the university some days ago, I've been looking for something to take my mind away from my everyday life and recharge my batteries.
I enjoy being alone but tbh I think I should bring my roommate for the first trip since it's not very safe to walk those places without a friend to help you if needed.

He, my grandfater, got all the equipment we need - just needed to get us a decent pair of walking boots - so shouldnt be too expensive for a great experience.

My question is, do you think two "city boys" should be able to manage such a trip in a tough area without any knowledge - but the one my grandfater will be able to teach us from home. And ofc with the help of teh great internet.

Really need a place to relaxe and recharge.

P.s please give me your views on such a trip if you have ever done it your self.

sounds awesome, i'd love to do things like that, always had a thing for random trips.

one of my fave things is when driving me and my friend always have this thing where we go "what's down there?"....."dunno"

clickity click, clickity click

*screeching tyres*

"ahhh...that's what's here"

always wanted to do things like drive accross europe, US etc..will do someday. except we wouldnt have a "sight seeing plan" as such..more like "well..we're on east coast...get the compass out..we're going west!"

As the saying goes, better to regret something you have done, rather than something you haven't.

Only thing I'd say is never to hillwalk/mountain walk alone. Things happen.

Go for it.

id say just do it. you cant ponder on what risks may arise. at best you do it and think how good it was, at worst you die a horrible death but at least you tryed :)

You'd be having quite a time convincing us that you were eaten and pooped out by a large animal and then managed to come back to post about it :D

Yeah, go for it. But to really get the experience your grand is talking about, i'd suggest taking a brother/father heck, even your grand there instead of a roommate.

One of those, spiritimitualrelationsjibbers they talk about.

This will sound gay.

But that is how I got it with me mate. We spend many nights sitting outside, drinking a bottle of morgan rum, and talking about life/space/how small we are etc. etc.

I fancy philosophy - especially the old greek philosophy - so we spend a lot of time talking about that and how they thought of the world.

And my grandfather is too old now and he can't walk as he used to, he is crippled with arthritis. Else he would of brought me with him ofc hehe

Yeah.. Fear the big moose! It's a real killer

tbh, go for it m8.. I really enjoyed the trips I had when I was a scout(YES I was a scout for 7years), being out in the wild and enjoying nature! Kinda miss it sometimes tbh, but I don't wanna be a scout again tho :D

Ah not at all gay. Just be careful out there and don't come back saying you broke your back on the mountain *grin*

That's my idea of a nice evening, drinking Morgans Spiced in the garden talking about anything and everything.

As for the trip, do it. I have had alot of ideas that I never followed up on and so I missed out on alot of interesting escapades.

I'm amazed your grandfather was still doing this at 71. Go for it.

Sounds like a cool idea echome, I'd say go for it. But don't forget to take a camera and video camera, this is the type of stuff that makes movies! Or at least you'll be able to show us pics on FH :D

Btw what do you do on your night shift? Seem to have a lot of free time on your hands ;o as a telephone engineer on mine it's job and knock, so I'm always rushing around the frames to get home earlier.

Solo: Yeah he did last really long and was very active until a high age. But that has also just made him more pissed now he can't do anything without his hole body hurting :-/.

Nate: I sit on my arse, waiting for the phone to ring if someone gets their mobil stolen and needs it closed. 5-10calls in 8hours. So yeah got waaay to much time.

I'll be visiting my grandfather mid next week with my friend so we can arrange the trip. Though I think we will wait untill August since that should be the best season.
And I sure will try to get a hold of a decent camera to shoot some pictures. From the books I've been reading about the area I want to visit it sure sounds lovely.

aw ech that sounds great tbh get as much info from your grandpa as possible and a nice idea to return his help might be to take pictures and make a journal so that you can give it to him when you get back so that he can share the xp too (i do that for my bf when i go off somewhere and he cant come lol).

dont put it off though or youll never get it done, good lad.
