Hello peeps,

Just setting up a server and I want to use my router's monitor, K'Board and mouse. I've just looked around for the 2 port omnicube and its around £100.

Is there an alternative? £100 seems a bit expensive... but then again it saves me buying a new monitor etc etc.

Thanks,

Khan

depends what you'll be wanting it to do really. a server for what exactly? it may well be possible to do what you want with some older hardware that you can get for perhaps less than 100 squid.

if both machines are networked win9x/NT/2K/XP and and all you want to do is occasionally plonk onto the server to do stuff within windoze itself i'd use VNC - it's a free app and will be perfect for anything bar photoshoppage/games on the server box ;)

Er, I got the four port Omnicube for under £100 a few months back, however including the cables it came to around £100.

I got mine from Action (now owned by Insight), I belive the two port is around £50.

I've got 2 - 4 port omni cubes at work, very nice bits of kit but I needed one this weekend... Therefore either a £170 for a 4 port omni [PCWorld prices] or this KVM which was £14.99 + cables.

Cheers,

Khan
