OMG NO!!!I have seen recent talk about the apparent likelyhood that q2 is dying :/ No way!! It will never die in my view. It's a classic LAN and online game. Plus all the mods and stuff, it still rules! I say dont give up on Q2 )

Yep, there are slightly less players playing quake2 atm, but I reckon that's just a temporary thing. (while they go check out q3 to see what all the fuss is about)
I got all three quakes, and to me, q2 will take some beating in overall gameplay. New mods are STILL being thought up and made. Maybe one day, when i'm old and grey, ppl will start playing something else. (like chuckie egg... remember that? Classic game!)

I agree that Quake 2 is the far superior game out of all three but unfortunatly you'd probably be misguided in thinking that those who have left to play Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament are going to return.

Unfortunatly, telling your m8's you '0wn on Q3' is often the basis of playing in the first place. Or blabbing on about 3D engines; or boasting about the frame rates you get in this '3D Overlord'.

Gameplay tends to be thrown out the window by most; which is a shame

Quake 2 is far superior, gameplay wise. And I would bet it has a lot do with the fact that Carmack and Co. had nothing to prove; they just had a game to make. With Quake 3, they had other game developers to 'beat'.

Unfortunatly, I think it'll be a very long time before we see a game that is both amazing graphically and is as fun to play as Quake 2.

Until then, I won't be playin much of anything else

One of the best players i knew quit Q2 a year ago cos of Q3..

dapea: I don't thinks it's dying.. Sure there are many players switching to q3, but there are more than enough dedicated q2 players to keep the game alive for a long time to come.

The chunk of players that were gonna leave, have. I haven't noticed any furthur droppage since.

As for staying alive for the next four years, I actually hope that won't be the case. I'm kinda hopin someone will make a fps that is as good and better (which hasn't happened yet).

No way is q2 dying!! Whenever I am looking for a game online, I find that the q3 servers are deserted and the q2 ones pretty much have players round the clock - 5 weeks ago it was the other way round, i had to go to q3 to play at weird times of day/night! I think people who left q2 out of curiosity are coming back cos q2 0wns q3 - i bought q3 and I have barely played it because for me the gameplay aint even close to Q2's

i firmly believe its the network coding of q2 and the age of the game that makes it better than any other game. it will run great on a p233 with an 8 meg pci voodoo2,so wen u play it on a modern pc it is seamless.undoubtedly quake 3 will be as good to play online when i have my 1ghz athlon
is it just me?or do the characters on q3,ut,hl all seem to float and not belong in the "scene",whilst q2 opponents look quite solid and are "believably" there? i think this is the network code and line speed showing fault in more graphically intensive games, sure q3 looks better than q2 but who gives a fuck if it seems more like a video game than a real experience???

196 meg of ram

q3 runs v.well but its the only computer spec that i know of that will run q3 well

me m8's have got AMD 450's and voodoo 3's and top wack q3 is shite... like a 450 is slow?

I think that its unfair that q3 has taken off like it has if it had nothin to do with ID software and it didn't have the title QUAKE people would not buy it coz it means that they need to shell out £££££ for upgrades.. Q3 was released to sell P3's and Athlon's. Otherwise people would just upgrade their graphics hardware as they do 90% of the processing. when it comes down to gaming the CPU just delivers the raw data from the ram or H disk to the card..

The only reason that Q2 might die out is because the so called biggest and best league the UKCCL is absolutely shit, games late, admins get in stresses over nothing, imature head admin of the mixed league. WPDML, not sure on it yet, just entering it now. At least if the pings could get better in the UKCCL it would be a start, or at least drop the flash website that is useless, or, or, or. Well just drop the UKCCL. The game will only last as long as there is a competative capacity for it.

Q2 is dying, just look at savage league, the old waiting list taking years to load, now is at 0. Clans folding here and there. q3 is a good game. the boxed copy is rubish. Q3f is a laugh, get them hl llamas in there, cctf and alliance are both amazing, and ra3 is a laugh (ra2 still rocks though)
