because wow has great PvP :m00:
Yes it sure does, glad someone else noticed it.. balanced fun PvP for all where you dont need to farm items, scroll then lvl the crappy item... and on top of that have 2 i repeat 2 accs to be ready for PvP... even a 2 levels lower player can kill his enemy bye using the tools and skills to him.. If you guys read up on what Blizzard said on release you should realize WoW owns all.. Was something in the line that they where so proud having being able to create a mmorpg that IS PLAYABLE bye BOTH hardcore and CASUAL players... This is where WoW will succed... wow gonna have the double amount of players then any other mmorpg out there...

Haha the comment "WoW owns all" made me laugh, havent spoken to one person that wants to play WoW yet that play Daoc hardcore. There are ofc ppl that will leave Daoc for WoW, its just to cartoony for my taste.

Dont like the level system either, every hunter get the exact same things ect (ofc the same for the other classes), you pay ur trainer to get the skills, and you pay even more money to rais the specs. Some skills req long quests to get as well.
And not to mention the Diablo style Tallent system. If I want to play diablo, I play diablo, not WoW.

The crafting system is ZzZz, fair enough I was only able to make lvl 15ish items, but they all had pre made stats, and as far as I know there are no way to change the stats on the items.

Anyway cba'ed writing more, I know I was dissapointed by WoW, and I dont enjoy doing quests all day long to level. Ofc you dont HAVE to do loads of quests, but I get the feeling that Blizzard expects the players to level up on questing.

I don't play DAOC either (well I do time to time attend to DRs just for fun, and pay house rent every now so often) - my focus is aimed atm to Everquest II.

Won't cancel my subs, I just want to play EQ2 atm, maybe times will change and I return to DAOC 100%, only time will tell.. lack of PvP in EQ2 hasn't yet bothered me (they say its going to be implemented to the game - in some extent at least).

Well, I'm happy WoW is finally online. During the last months - years - there were so many speculations and dreams around it that it morphed from a good game to almost a legend, the holy grail of all mmogs. Masses of frustrated gamers from all mmogs, including of course our, were seeing it as the perfect product to rule em all ... ignoring the fact that developers and producers are, well, human the first and businessmen the second.

As we speak, WoW USA servers are crashing, rebooting, lagging, and when they don't people waits in hundreds slots long queues before being able to log in. Not better, not worst than any other games opening did ... Blizzard understimated their pre sales, fans overstimated their expectations. Nothing new here.

Finally, legend meets reality - about frigging time, I say. Mind it, can be a damn fun and good game, but far from the legend that was masterfully created in the last years.

In EQ2 we have had our share of them problems as you've mentioned. I play in runnyeye server and there was during last weekend 3 (or so) server downtimes (everyone gets a message that server goes down). Usually after relogin a patch of the game must be installed, which works as trivial way as in DAOC. Game is lauched via a launchpad software which does the check of game files and patches 'em if needed.

To compensate the overpopulation of the runnyeye server SOE has implemented a command to allow ppl who are willing to transfer his/her character(s) to another server - which should match 100% runnyeye server. I chose to stay, if the guild in which my char is in don't choose to transfer.

So it seems, that every MMORG has its problems (more or less) - but during the time bugs gets solved and the game advances to bug-free state.

Which sounds a lot more fun than camping a spot pulling same mob over and over for several hours until you level and have to move to next mob spot, rince and repeat until you hit the last level. Personally I hope WoW will be a great success in that respect so we get rid of the assembly line kind of gameplay that MMORPG designers seems to equal to fun gameplay. That said it requires skill and talent to produce enough interesting quests to keep you preoccupied for month after month. I have no idea if Blizzard is up to that task. The only thing we know for a fact is that Mythic were not up to the challenge of improving the pve formula when putting together Daoc. Their hall of fame accomplishment lies in another direction.

The main attraction of WoW (or any new MMORPG) seems to be a completely new world where you can get that wow feeling you got time after time while exploring Midgård with your first char during many moons ago. I doubt I am alone longing for some new vistas to explore :)

i was alb and mid excalibur in beta and the feeling of exploring the new little bits just around starter towns and killing mobs and doing the little quests was so cool...better than the grind that it is 2day.

hope wow is like that for people, and me if i start it.

personally i dont think WoW will have the "wow" feelings i had when i started in midgard all that time ago simply because i KNOW what to expect, what i want, what i dont want etc etc

im one of those carebears who didnt like DAoC because of its all or nothing approach (almost 3 years of struggling in a game isnt a great deal of fun :D )

that said i dont understand what people dont like about the WoW PvP system, i tried it and had great fun, i lost fights, i won fights, against both higher and lower level people

just think you cant be arsed to have to go through all the effort to get to lvl 60, then get to the top of the "honour" tables or whatever :p

oh yes, and i love the graphics, think some people take daoc far too seriously, WoW makes it look unrealistic which simply adds to the fun if you ask me.

that said i thoroughly enjoyed exploring the areas and the difference between the area's is great (wide open plains of mulgore, wastelands of the barrens, thick forests with Son of Arugal jumping out of bushes in silverpine forest.... fantastic :) )

But why is everyone comparing Daoc to Wow? The former has been established and running for a while and has had lots of fixes, expansions where as the latter is still in beta (for europeans)

I remember playing daoc at launch and it is completely different from the product we play now, as you would expect.

Obviously comparisons are gonna be made, but come on ... saying the graphics are too cartoony ? this is almost too funny for words... 'That troll looks so realistic?' lol it isnt the sims.

Each should be looked at on their own merits.. the biggest one Daoc has right now is that it is established and offers a product the players are familiar with. What Wow offers is a new experience and time will tell wether or not it will be any good.

The one thing that makes a mmorpg any good is the player base that subscribes and here, at least to begin with, Daoc has the advantage. However there is obviously a lot of interest in wow and so it is up to daoc to get the ball and run with it, so to speak, and make sure that their product remains fresh and challenging to retain a decent mix of new, casual and veteran players.

If they don't they (we) are bound to go elsewhere, if not to Wow then to another mmorpg.

wow sucks or not aint important
fact is that daoc has major problems atm and is dieing , too many people are LOOKING for something to switch
wow will be that game for alot of people and so will EQ2 be
and even IF those games suck monkeyballs people will still leave because they will give it a try etc

will be fun playing on prydwen with wow servers up , 500 peepz online in primetime like when the open beta released ?
