OMFG!!!!! WTF is wrong with GOA!!

Once again GOA have shown themselves up to be COMPLETELY useless!!

As many people know, my account was hacked and I lost all my items and 2 characters were unrecoverable, including my lvl48 nightshade which took alot of work to get to 48.

So after getting 2 bare lvl50 chars restored, I asked for my subscription password to be changed as the hacker has/had my password and I get told an email has been sent off to get it changed....... it never got changed...

I went away last weekend and got back last night and found my sub ran out, tried to renew it and its still not gone through and my Transaction is still being processed apparently.... Takes 2 seconds to do a transaction at a supermarket, but at least 15 hours for GOA

Well today I ask again on rightnow to have my subscription password changed as the hacker of my account my still have it here is my response:

Unfortunately we do not change Subscription password under any means.
As stated in the EULA in the fourth paragraph
* Upon registration, you must select a password. You are responsible
for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and are responsible
for any damage, harm, lost or deleted characters, etc. resulting from
your disclosure or allowing the disclosure of any password or from use
by any person of your password to gain access to your Account.



Is it just me, or are these GOA support people just a load of uncaring stupid wankers? First thing u do at work, home etc when someone has gained access to private data or something is change the password... but no... GOA cant do this.... Fucking pissed off with all this shit now!

This does seem rather unfair, im sure your not the first to have been hacked or to lose subscription details. Surely GOA can check your identity by payments made / credit card used etc.... Another possible way of identity is for them to post the details to the address registered when signing up.

Just sending out a general email quoting that bollocks is unacceptable customer service..

Yes we want to have our accounts protected but please please remember GOA we are the paying customers and without us you are nothing!

Yeah they are crap at giving out sub passwords One person from our guild left because he couldnt get his subscription password back and after 2 months or so of having his account closed due to not being able to pay, he quit... here's his leaving post

Never had any problems with GOA sending me a copy of my password usually really quick response about a day or so

Dunno how a hacker could have got into your account, unless you were silly enough to leave your account details on your computer

Or somehow they hacked through GOA, which would have been aware of the problem if it had occurred as they would have logs and if so, its surprising that this so called hacker has not hacked anyone else's account

Not having a go just trying to establish if this hacker could pose a threat to other users and if so do other people or even GOA need to be made aware?

Yeah he got it from my email somehow, all emails were deleted as well except my goa sub email. And the fact that all my chars were deleted, kinda shows someone hacked me... good old Yahoo email....


Funny things is.... I got an email from GOA 30 mins ago, telling me my cd key, my sub password etc which I didnt even ask for, lol!! What a bunch of spoons

Dodgy and unlucky it happened to you mate really hope it sorts itself out

All in all its a reminder to people that the safest way to secure your password is to physically write it down and hide it somewhere

At the end of the day the best way to avoid problems is by avoiding compromising your account

Those aren't hackers. Those are mostly noobs using a lame hackerscript, which a lot of noobs tend to download. Keep your windows updated. Hackers use the buggs of it. For example, if u have windows xp, u need to have a true serial number to it, since mircrosoft made it unavailable to update if not a legal package.

If someone had got access to my private informations, i sure hell would be pissed... and GoA/mythic would be reported to sum IT-securty-section-thing in Denmark, concerning IT-security (forgot name atm).. They would be checked for leaks, if any they would get sued, etc.

regarding subscription passwords, i've got mine twice (shh) within 2 hours. You need to send:

your full name
the email address you registered with
the address you registered with
your cd-key

to subscription@goa.com

and they get back pretty f.quick

All security updates are available to all versions of XP even the illegal. The only issue with the key is if you are trying to download servicepacks through windowsupdate. If you go in on microsoft.com and download servicepack as a sysadm to be installed from your lan, you dont need the key.

If MS actually made an effective system to combat illegal home copies of WinXP they will just see a world that would adapt to another OS, and they dont want that Im sure.

Half true.

Windows XP service pack 1 disabled the key used by the "original" copy of XP that was floating around, and so prevents anyone using this from using the "Windows Update" feature.

Hardly a problem for anyone who was using it since there has been a working key generator for XP for quite some time now, as well as instructions on how to change the key used easily.

There is a reason they don't let you change subscription passwords. It's actually a security feature (admittedly pretty perverse logic here). By not letting you change it, there is no chance of people pretending to be you and obtaining subscription passwords this way. As having the subscription password for an account essentially is ownership of the account, its best they don't give fraudsters any chance of getting this information, as any accoutn stolen through this method, they would be liable for. GoA just assumed people would take care of these passwords, which to be honest is pretty stupid considering the idiocy of a large proportion of people on the internet. If accoutns do get stolen, it's the owners fault and they aren't liable for anything.

The other possible reason for not allowing you to change your sub password would be if it's used as a primary key in the character database, which while also stupid, wouldn't surprise considering mythic's coding. Modifying it could theoretically cause database inconsistencies, but you'd have thoguht there would be a few work arounds even if this was the case.

I'm guessing, but in addition to it being a "Security Feature" is that since you can't ever change your subs passwords it may be a way to discourage the buying of accounts. The original owner of the account can always log into your subs information, view your new password and play, so buying accounts is a dangerous things to do with the rules on subs passwords as they are.

here's how it works on US:

When u first activate your account u are asked to chose LOGIN | PASSWORD and Secret word... u are also advised NOT to write secret word anywhere besides your mind...
When u are hacked for instance you need to call Mythic support and ONLY OVER THE PHONE give your secret word in orther to recover the account
And yes they do change secret word over the phone altho u have to prove it's u with some questions they make...

US support is indeed alot alot alot alot better than GOA one...
GOA is just here selling they're copy of Copyrights in daoc... so get used to it they have a real bad costumer support... afterall it wastes they're money doesn't it?
