Omaha Beach - sabotaged parachute packs ?

Has anyone used a parachute on Omaha Beach ? I have begun to suspect they are disabled.

I was trying to jump down the cliff from the Coastal Guns, the parachute never opened despite how many times I tried. I can jump off church towers and other high points okay on other maps.

I suspect it is an option on the map, as I've tried jumping out the third floor on Berlin and Stalingrad, only to become another pile of bloody guts on the pavement.

I'm happy to accept it's just my lame gameplay, in which case I must try harder

I think you may well be correct, as you can clearly open your chute lower than the 3rd floor when jumping from planes.

I've seen parachuting action on Omaha, but only with the aid of exp pack

Yeah ive been blown high up via a "friendly" tank and managed to save myself with a parachute on Omaha.

The only thing I can think about whilst playing Omaha is what cruel sadist map maker created this abomination. I wonder what his logic was...

"Hey I know, if I give the Axis crazy fortifications, 2 defguns, a bunch of vehicles and spawn points directly on top of the objectives; that'll give the allies a good fight."

In reality, after spawning at the beach the Allied soldier must first dodge sniper, machine gun and defgun fire. After that he is often bombarded with grenades and tank fire while running up the ramps. Once up the ramp he is a lamb to the defgun, but if he does manage to get into the bunker he must avoid the fresh Axis infantry spawns until the flag turns neutral.

And all that if the Allies are lucky enough to capture the beach. More often the Axis invade the beach and sink the cruiser which is really, really depressing.
