Pretty dull so-far. I mean, where's the crowd? No atmosphere anywhere. Hopefully the track events will make up for it.

I saw some of the opening ceremony whilst I ate me dinner. Bjork was on it. Lots of countries I'd never heard of. How many Guinea's are there? I see Iraq are doing well in the football.

Athens looks great. One of the cities I've been wanting to visit since, err, forever. Maybe next year when the hotel prices have dropped a little. I know you probably think I'm 'anti-Greek' from my comments on your footie team's Euro 2004 victory but, in truth, I have been a student of Greek history, mythology and philosophy for some time now. Read The Iliad when I was 10 and have been in love with your people since then.

Tried to watch the opening ceremony but it went on just a little too much for me. Have had a chuckle at some of the overrated 'Team GB' people crashing out of events. The girl who was interviewed on Radio 1 last week and said she'd definitely be coming back with the gold in the cycling and then was lucky to finish 5th in the competition was a case in point. But then laughing at our own failure is something we Brits excel at. We get a lot of practice ;)

That 100 meteres final was fucking electric. Kudos to Greene for making Powell look like an amateur. :)

edit:// Looking forward to the 200 meteres now. :)

I thought the opening ceremony was terrible, but I think it's become customary that they have to be really bad, or it just wouldn't really be an opening ceremony, would it? :)

As for the 100m, I'm just glad that Crawford didn't win. I really can't stand over-confident people, especially athletes.

Shame about Paula Radcliffe, but we aren't doing too badly on the medals I suppose, I thought we'd be doing a lot worse but as long as we are up there on the first page it's ok.

That was truly a beautiful sight. Made it 10 times better that they beat the yanks by a split second.

Incredible. :)

You're all forgetting the 4x100m relay team, how many times have you seen them pipped by the yanks in world champs and olympics, and this time we beat them!! :D

2 amazing races... sort of makes me sick though that she could have probably done this 2 times previously if she had not had so many problems in her life.

Remember seeing that some Americans have come up with an equation to predict how many medals a country will get at the Olympics and GB & NI has gone past. They predicted 27 medals and we will have 30.

It has been a fantastic achievement by GB & NI just hope we can carry it on in 4 years time given a lot of the main 'stars' wont be around for it, or will be so old that there chances will be slim (Kelly Holmes for one).

PS. Wonder if the Army starts to use Kelly in a promotional campaign ...

So was i, ffs.

:/

I brought it up! Learn to read pls, JingleBells.

Plus, a bit of trivia; That was the first British Relay Gold medal, since 1912. So it's a once in a lifetime thing which makes it all the more special. My grandfather never got to see GB triumph in a sprint relay (bless his soul).
