Okay, i tried everywhere else...

Right, so i have tried everywhere else, i mean the works - SOE support, every forum from here to timbuktu..but i have been lowerd to asking advice from the..BW FORUMS!

okay, so heres the deal :
you know when you first install the game, it dose a full, thorough scan? take about 20 mins or so? well my wonderfull little game seems to have got its self stuck on that mode. Every time i want to play PS i gotta wait 20 mins - now, this could be some realy stupid reason, say i swiched somethin on i shouldent have, but i doubt it as i have reinstalled/formatted my PC to see if i can fix it..but alas..

Anywho, the dorothy on the other end of the phone to SOE had no idea, but any help would be apreciated..

I've heard of something similar once.

Do you have any particular virus protection software, because apparently whenever that checks sometimes it writes to all files just a little bit or something, and then PS thinks it needs to check all of them or something.

OK so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but you get the general idea... Is it trying to download stuff or just scanning it?

I have this problem too, its quite annoying and I would forever worship anyone who could sort it out.

Well shall we start with the virus checker idea first? Both of you with the problem please try temporarily disabling the virus software and seeing if the problem persists. Please post the results here

Meanwhile I'll have a ponder and see if I can think of other causes...

Do you use Zonealarm or simlar firewall?

Sorry to screw up ur theory..but since formatting my pc, i havent reinstalled virus stuff yet (stupid i know)...however, i do have a hardware firewall, doubt it got anythin to do with it tho. It only scans most of the time, downloads only if theres a patch. when talkin to the SOE dude, he said to delet the planetside.xml file..didnt do anythin, but mby its smtin like that. Anywho, just been booted to desktop and realy cant be botherd with a 20 min wait.

Disabled all virus related stuff and sure enough it did the job. So thanks for that But I feel all vulnerable now...

Once when I left my comp for an hour or so I thought it had gone into that crazy hibernation thing it does. So i hit a key, nothing, I hit another, nothing - I then thump my keyboard for quite some time before remembering Id actualiy switched the monitor off.

And you expect me to figure out stuff like that

Aiee! no ideas..i disabled my anti virus n stuff..nothin..umm...it wasent that annoyin, but now with the CTD probs, it is MOST annoying
