hehe well so now I have decided to roll a controller.

And I have narrowed my main power choises down to two options, Ice or Mind.

IF I pick Ice I want to couple it with empathy so I can aid the group with a bit of healing, rezzing etc. and IF I pick mind I figgured that since there are no Immobilize or slow in mind that I have to pick storm for my secondary power.

My 2 main questions/gripes are:

*Deciding what secondary powers I want to pick from my secondary lines (kindof unshure of wichones in storm and emp that are realy optimal to have)

*And I am allso debating wether I should gear towards leaping as my traveling pool power or teleport (mainly looking at leaping cause of the "acrobatics" ability that makes you resistant to holds and knockbacks. Must be great in PvP or arena combat [whenever/if ever that is implented] and not too bad vs baddies that does those things either :p

Here are my templates tho, please comment and share youre views etc. cause I am so undecided atm that I just want to tear my hair out :), Wich is youre favourite? What would you change?:

I agree with Elvo. There are a lot of different combinations out there and would suggest that none are perfect. There are different mobs and some are more prone to some specs then others. You group with different people and depending on whatthey have you adapt accordingly (as a group hopefully). when you click you will rock.

Add to that the fact that people pick different powers out of the sets and the game gets more interesting.

Me. I went mind/kinetic. Happy with it and the level 20 kinetic buff is appreciated. Decided to choose teleport as well - thought it would be useful to tp enemies out. My one regret - but its not killing me!

Enjoy

Play more, think less, build it as you like.

I agree. Have fun. Atleast I like the fact that (at least atm) this game is not like Daoc, spec this way or fail.

Just pick powers you like most, play char you like most. You'll be fine. If you want to heal, get empathy from either prim or sec. CC + heal will make you popular and can be fun too. But as far as I can see (with my limited exp), if you have a cabable CCing char, the need for heals is also lessened a lot (as this is not EQ, Daoc etc)...

ps: mind may not have immobilize, but sleeping and stunned mobs stand still.

Well i dont agree with the .. just play and see where u end up idea, ;)
that might work now in the early levels but later on u get to a point when or wished u saved up for power or didnt take this because the power u get later on does the same even better ... so i say plan ahead as far as u can !!

just post your ideas on the template instead of saying, play more u silly hero's always taking the easy way out :p

There aren't that many powers with pre-reqs (just the pool group ones afaik). Mostly they just become available at a certain level, and that's it. It's not like to get points to spend on powers or anything like that. You don't "save up" for them, you just see what you can get, and pick what's best. You can't defer getting a power until later when you can afford a better one, you can't defer the enhancement slots to next level when you get a new power to put them in. And none of the powers really make a previous power redundant. Even if they're very similar, they are different, and each better than the other under different circumstances. My completed blaster will have 3 single target DDs and a heap of AE powers. None of which could really be considered better or worse than any of the others.. they're all different DDs with different uses.

Just choose what's best out of what’s available at the time. Sure, know what the powers do, so you can pick ones that compliment each other, or match your desired play style, but unlike many MMOGs excessive amounts of pre-planning is redundant, the choice at level up is the choice at that level, and hardly influenced by what did chose last time at all.

And on the template... it really depends on what you want to play. There are very few powers in any of the power sets that make another power redundant.. and they all compliment each other under different circumstances. The power pools are very well designed that way. The same with the travel power debates.. they all come into their own under different circumstances, and I'd avoid labelling one as "best" and the others "not worth having because X is better". Hover is great for ranged characters, jumping is handy for melee, hasten is very powerful, TP friend has some brilliant situational uses, and Teleport is technically the fastest way of getting around (but also the most labour intensive). Personally, I enjoy Fly, and find Hover very useful. But that doesn't make it right for you.

I have no plan that I'm following, and no idea how "ubar" or "leet" my char is. I pick powers that sound fun, and use the wee bit of experience I got with the beta to help pick, too.

I was grouped last night with the biggest arsehole I have ever met. He was a fucking maniac. The guy was quoting stats on how well each power performed for each for every class, giving us all detailed advice on future spec plans, telling us "omg i am such a reknowned leader!", and, the one that really pissed me off:

He timed people when they went for a piss. He had a little '30 second rule'.

Please, never let me be like that :(

Man, I feel for you :( I like to see people with different kinds of selections and chars. I pick em as I ago also. All spec talking gives me chills ;) Everyone has paid their 50$ for the game though and for some the joy is to calculate things before hand (all possible combos), I have a friend like that. I'm the one who's always asking him "ok, can we play now?" heehee...

But for that guy who you grouped with, you should have suggested him to try DAOC ;)

That's the great thing about this game; you can't really screw up with your character. There is no dex/str/qui to worry about, no f'kin uberlit weapons/armour you need to camp for hours to get...just bad guys to whup the tar out of and new powers to gain! So much fun! :D Just choose what powers you like the sound of and go with it. :)

Accualy you can screq up pretty bad by taking the wrong abilitys and fitting the wrong enhansements :)

Wich I did with my first char, (Ice/SS, took some SS abilitys that I shouldnt have and fittet soem poopy enhancements.... but it came out nice, cause now my char looks cooler as I bruched the costume up a bit after rerolling :p) so far I have a few gripes about my MC/SS (levitate beeing easy to resists and the dominate-hold allowing enemies to dodge if I use brawl [ice block wouldnt do that]) but sticking with it still :)

You can always fix bad enhancements.

realy, how?

*Can you scrap them to insert a diffrent kind once they are in place?

*Can you switch the extra slots around? So that if you dont need one on one power you can move it over to another?

To the first point, yes, you can replace enhancements with another type, it just overwrites the original enhancement.

To the second, no, you're right in that respect. They can't be changed about once you fix them to a power.

Sarcasm notwithstanding in your post, you can to some extent, erm, gimp your character, just not to any unplayable extreme.

Unless of course, you really try to oO Lord knows why you'd want to do that.

Yes you can replace enhancements. You can pull them out and drop them in the bin icon (although this can be a little tricky for some reason, it's kinda temperamental as to if you pick it up or not). Or much easier: just drop your new enhancement ontop of the one you wish to replace, and preso, it's replaced.

In neither case will you get the old one back - but they're hardly a huge problem to come by. They drop reasonably frequently, sell the ones you don't want, by the ones you do.

If you couldn't replace them, there would be no point putting any in until you got access to SOs. Putting "training" enhancements in would be a surefire way to gimp your character at higher levels, DOs are so much better than training, and SOs so much better than DOs.
