We've got a new log in poll for our active subscribers. This one is asking how often (if at all) you use some kind of voice chat communication.

If your preferred answer is not listed, or you have something on the topic to tell me, direct it to the UI category of the feedback form and your friendly Herald weenies will read it.

So Mythics first lady is asking people for their opinion on voicechat and I hope this means that maybe Myhic is gonna put in some internal support for voicechat.

Of cause this would be no change for the regular gg's, but might be interesting when you make a PuG and can't decide which server to use or who is gonna give the PW's etc. =)

I'd love to get that and maybe, yes maybe we might get such a thing =)

That would be such a leapjump of a step in the right directions in mmorpg, would be cool of mythic to be the first (?) company to support 'automatic' ingame voice program, obviously it has to be of ventrilo quality, but it's definently a really really good idea. Mythic would really be pioneering with doing something like that, not stealing from another mmorpg.

Excellent idea, certainly hope they implement an ingame voice program. Would be no difference for me though, can't play without ventrilo, it's totally impossible, I never read grp chat when fighting anymore now :(

I dont think mythic is the first ones with the idea, as I have read that Dungeons and dragons will also have support for a voice com in there game.

But yea would be cool if they implemented it hope they make a smart impelmentation of it and not a mythic one, that you have to pay extra money for it or something :p

sounds good, rather than messing with vent mix/ts etc all the different versions, ips and passwords, would be nice to have something as easy as that.

There is ofc the point that perhaps peeps don't want to have to talk to anyone as a manditory requirement to playing a computer game.

I suppose it will eat a lot of bandwith, which is something they already seem to lack :p

It's already like that if you want to get a decent rvr group... in my experience anyway.

I think support for voicecom in daoc would rule. Just having a little bubble lit up next to his name in groupwindow when someone is talking would be nice :)

Also you could have a /vc join command .. (vc for voicecom)... basicly give it all the things a battlegroup has ... /vc invite <name>, /vc password etc etc etc

Tribes 2 used to have ingame voicecoms, this was back in March 2001. The only problem with it is that the quality sucked quite badly compared to other programs available at the time.

I'd love to see ingame voicecoms if the quality was good enough. Being able to talk with the rest of the group without having to rely on a 3rd party program would be far easier. They could also allow such a tool in battlegroups and only allow battlegroup leaders to use it.

Those players who don't want to use voicecoms or don't want to hear anyone else could always turn the option off, however quite a lot of groups use it these days.

Would be really nice, if it makes the game lag less than ventrilo does, (and eliminate the problem with ventrilo that if it gets too laggy the mic sound goes crazy and tries to blow everyone's ears off, and I have to alt+tab to restart ventrilo after each zoning because of this wich makes the game lag even more.)

How about the bandwidth needed to support xx k players using a voice comm on their servers? Never gonna happen imo.

Somehow I doubt Mythic are able to make a better voice chat program than those companies that does nothing else (TeamSpeak/Ventrilo).

Stick to what you do best Mythic!

I very much doubt that Mythic will write their own. Products like Vent/Teamspeak have the free versions that alot of us use. But they have larger scale versions which are for purchase and don't have user limits. I would expect one of these to be integrated into the environment and a more professional interface provided.

ALso the various codecs that you can select within the server settings, can define the amount of bandwidth that each "voice" takes up.

I would point that this is not necessarily just for DAOC, but for Warhammer. How better than to test potential new features for Warhammer than on the DAOC community, which I think we all agree will probably be smaller than the Warhammer community.

There is alot of work on the interface side of things that would be required, for large scale "voice" use in game.

Would be great especially for those that do not know or bother with other VOIP proggies. Onlyhope they give it its own server and line so we dont get more lag issues.

"Sorry for the lag but my buddy told me about his last visit to the cinemas so all clients froze in NF :/" etc etc

have fun

I suspect that the poll is more likely aimed for Warhammer Online than for DAoC.
