Something rather strange has happened: the blasted thing works again! [hums theme from twilightzone]. I was mucking about with it this morning, and it, well it turned itself back on.
I am going to get a new one anyway as I no longer trust this current one. It was on it's last legs anyway.

I want to get one of those big 'old style' models, with the rounded corners. muy cool
