So I took my lovely computer, installed Oblivion, turned everything up to max detail/settings and played it.

The graphics are good; the atmosphere isn't bad but I'm not feeling much in regards to gameplay.

When I first exited the sewer; I had visions of running into the forest and fighting wild rabid packs of wolves but all i came across was dear.

Items degrade astonishingly quickly; the main plot is very linear and the close up combat doesn't even come close to that of Dark Messiah's.

Am I the only one with such thoughts and opinions? The game really hasn't scrubbed up for me.

its all about the mods when it comes to oblivion

Its one of those games which the community has made good rather than the game itself shining particularly

First you might want to adjust some settings to make it look/play a bit better

i dunno, i kinda found the default campaign to be quite entertaining.

and about the degradation pf the gear, yes it can be extremely annoying if you forget to repair when ur in town and don't have the skill yourself.

i tended to get the skill up to the point where i could atleast repair magical items somewhat, just for those "damn it! i forgot again" moments.

havent really tried any mods yet. was a few on the expansion disc if i remember correctly, but never bothered with them.

tho oblivion is nothing compared to Two Worlds :)

The thing is, Oblivion is only really good with the OOO (Obscuros Oblivion Overhaul) and a whole bunch of other mods.

One thing struck me the first time I played is that I could do anything I bloody well wanted. I guess it takes some time to get into that mind-set and absorb yourself.

As everyone else said, Oblivion is a game where you either play with mods or get bored after a few hours.

I'd also recommend tesnexus.com - probably a few hundred thousand mods(thankfully rated).

Dunno really, 35 hours gameplay and i haven't even got to the storyline yet

And by the way, the woods are filled with critters, as much as the real world has.

When I first exited the sewer; I had visions of running into the forest and fighting wild rabid packs of wolves but all i came across was dear.

Yes, this is what i instantly thought too after escaping a dungeon with the assistance of "ruler all", assassins killing the king, trolls, magic and giant sewer rats :p

with the vanilla game, mobs scale with you, so there aren't any mobs that are more difficult (in terms of level) or easier than your character, which is ultrafail. OOO fixes that, and prolly some other mod. I used that several months ago, not sure if there is anything else that does that is out.

i had it on xbox 360 with no mods and still loved it. Over 100 hours play time. The expansions are great too, i now have my own fort, own army the lot

I still go back and mess around in it when i have nothing else to play

I played around with Oblivion and mods before, but for me it kills immersion and i loose interest. And there are soo many mods you dont know whic to choose from and what works together.

Fun thing about immersion braking is that my roomie wonders why i don't fast travel, EVER, in Fallout 3.

I told him "'cause there's no random encounters in fast travel".

Which honestly is the only reason.

Oblivion was wonderful for me until I discovered levelling up the proper way in fact hurts your character in the long run so there I was thinking in every encounter, I have to use 'x' otherwise I'm making myself weaker in the long run.

As soon as that thought entered my head, the gameplay was ruined. Yes there are mods out there but as fettoken said, there are too many mods out there to trawl through just to find one which suits you.

And any game with scaling monsters is just plain lazy...

Until I found out these things, the game was fantastic.

That's why i don't use it.

People complaining about it, meh, don't use it :D

Ye, i remember when Oblivion was released. People complained about fast travel and how it ruined the game. And still the just ignored people who said don't use it if you don't like it :p

Aye, especially since it's a solo game, you play alone, and the travel is optional

Just seemed to me that they went too all of the effort to create a massive land that you could explore and do anything in, then gave you free ports to main destinations anyway. Thought it was just a bit shit.

its so they could satisfy everyone, you have the roamers happy cause they can walk around but impatient people who really want to get on instead of walking past the same rock 100 times are sorted too.

I think its a great idea i've used it plenty of times when doing boring missions and just want to ge tthem over with

Fallout 3 fast travel is useful if you run to Rivet City at level 2 and want to get back to Megaton!

Like said, optional. If you don't like travelling in the BIG LAND, which it is, then you can quick travel. If you like big land, then travel without it.

Fallout 3 fast travel is useful if you run to Rivet City at level 2 and want to get back to Megaton!

That's why i didn't run to rivet city at level 2

Exactly, it's a win win.

I love learning the landscape, i like seeing that same rock a 100 times, 'cause that means i know that hill i've seen a 100 times, has the tree i've seen a 100 times, from which i take a left for the 100th time and end up in megaton for the 300th time :D

They are pretty high, to 2look pretty", but it has an excellent "comedy" resolution of 800x600(or some such) which makes it look, essentially, oldschool pixel graphics :p
