System:-
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
DDR 128Mb RAM
20Gb Fujitsu Hard Disk
MSI 4200c Motherboard
Geforce 4 Nvida Graphics Card
PCI 128 Soundblaster

I have a problem with my graphics card! :(

When I put my res up to 1024x800 it works ok for a bit but then my monitor will turn off flicker and then come back on!

I then get an error message about my registry and it says I have to restart my machine to restor it, when I do it goes back to default inows and I have to re-load all my drivers for the sound, cable modem etc etc

Can anyone help?

Also I have 2 default monitors on? in my device manager and everytime I delete one when I reload it finds it again :(

You can make a registry backup, but there is no point if it is corrupted already.

I assume you've installed two monitor drivers. If in doubt, remove both and start again.

They were the first drivers to put on after a format!

I installed them using the program wizard thingy!

I have just got the latest drivers, I did have a recently when I loaded my VIA drivers for my motherboard and that sent the graphics into a frenzy ?

It kept turning my monitor of intermittenly

The two monitors can be for a couple of reasons depending on windows build and driver version used...

1. when you install windows it doesn't recognise the graphics card it installs a VGA driver and a default monitor - which in the driver database 'belongs' to the VGA card.

And when you come to install the drivers, it installs the board as a fresh device and therefore creates a monitor entry in the registry for it too.

2. Sometimes although the card is only hooked up to a single display both heads on the card will register as live and a second monitor driver will be installed.

WHich version of the drivers are you using? if i remember correctly you SHOULDN'T use the wizard and should close all prompts and then run the setup from the driver package - the wizard clashes with the way the drivers should be installed and that can lead to mass borkage.

Thats what i was trying to say.

I used to install nvidia drivers using the Wizard and it caused problems. Unzip the contents to some defeined folder c:\nvidia will do and then when u start up and it asks for the drivers choose location etc etc and point it at that folder.

If the drivers are on CD Do just point it at the CD folder not the EXE it trys to run

actually spoonbot #1 is a windows quirk and #2 depends on how the motherboards AGP is configured if you must know :p the latter is actually pretty useful as it lets you hot-swap between DVI and VGA inputs without needing both plugged in to switch between them!
