humm dont get what your on about.
My connection comes into the house then is split into two lines. One to the TV for cable TV, the other goes to the cable modem. Guess you could stick another cable modem on the tv side but as far as I know NTL work with Mac Address to allow the modem to use thier network. Without them allowing you to use this second mac address I think your out of luck.

I hear they cap your modem at your local exchange now anyway. Might go break into mine and see what I can find :)

Yep, NTL now offer 2 types of cable internet access, CM and STB (set top box) being your TV decoder. The STB option has got some strange bugs though. One I know of is that if you play QuakeWorld on it, it decides to switch itself off :D

Erm, NTL did a thing for pretty much the whole of the North West i think. Can't remember the exact date but it was somewhere in July i think. You rang up in the morning and they turned it on about 10 minutes later. It all comes in through the lead you get your Tv picture from. All you do is plug a network lead in the back of the box and login. Seams to run fine with 3 computers attatched to it. Haven't had it crash in Qw yet though. You get around 60k dloads (not sure if thats good or not compared to other Cable Companies) The only problem we had was at the start the box crashed 2 or 3 times. Also if someone kicks the Digital box plug out of the wall you loose your connection. Seams alright though and no long wating lists, took about 10 mins :)

Looks very simular to standard cable connections. Same networking features but this box acts as a cable modem.
Download speeds look pretty much the same.

does this mean that the dload speed will be 512 ?

60 K/sec is about the same as my 512k cable modem, although it does peak higher. 60K/s is the best average I can hope for.

Yeh, its 128k up (16k/s ish) and 512k down (60k/s ish). Standard NTL stuff i think. Its just the same as getting Cable from anywhere else just the difference is, its come from your set top box. Nothing else :)

I doubt it - I think you have to ask Ntl before you set this up, and they will probably charge you for the privilage.

Ive had 10 computers connected through my set top box, no problems so far. Even managed to have 7 people playing cs connected to the same server without lag :)

No, you can skank more than one cablemodem per household.

the trick is to register the first one at address "Flat 1, 99 Blah Street, Blahville" then to register a another one as "Flat 2, 99 Blah Street, Blahville".

My mate has already done it, has both cable modems working in the same house, and I'm due to go round and set him up a load balancing router/server so he can use both connections at the same time.

It shouldn't be much harder to register more cblemodems at the same house as long as it's within realistic limits. I'd say 4 would be the most you could get away with before NTL started scratching their heads, but of course you will be paying 4 * £25 a month

NTL are thick as shit though. They say that you are not allowed to share the net over 2 or more pc's. What differance would it make to them anyway. Im sure I use up more bandwidth than most NTL customers. I mean Im pretty much downloading at 70k a sec all day and night.

Errr, did they say that? NTL's stance is "you can do what you like with the connection, share it amongst everyone in your street if you like, the only thing is, we don't support it...so if it doesn't work, don't call us for help"

We sold someone a VPN using NTLs service. He had it installed a month b4 he started using it. NTL rang and said why arnt you using the cable modem. He said because someone is comming to install blah blah blah. They said they would switch it off. Nothing happened.

Sorry no I meant to say he said he was waiting for a router to share the conny between the 3 pcs.

You're allowed to do that though :) It's just that they won't offer any support for it if it stops working, or you can't get it working
