It's really interestnig how internet peeps, gamers(wow especially) are becoming REALLY talented compared to the pop culture mainstream.

Take this for example;

YouTube - The Guild - Do You Wanna Date My Avatar

A song about game avatar, with a hottie in lead(yum yum), and it sounds a lot better then the usual tripe played on the radio/music tv(s).

I'm thinking that the interner music scene is a lot like the original music scene of generation X, invention with no real money or backup.

(The above example ofcourse is already one of the succesful ones, which kinda steps on the independent bit, but hey why do something free if you can get payed :p)

They're professional actors Toh, not 'pro' gamers who became actors. Its pretty much the other way round :)

Feliciah Day is one of Joss Whedon's favoured. She turns up in most of his series at some point :)

Well poor example then, but point stands.

This part of the original post is accurate :)

The 'bedroom producer' phenomenon is massive. Because most aspects of music can be done in virtual rather than needing physical equipment now, anyone at home with the appropriate software and the will to learn how to use a digital audio workstation can achieve some near-professional sounding results in a relatively short amount of time.

Using Creative Commons licensing people can also get their music out into the world for free download and in theory get paid if someone uses their music for commercial applications. Its also a good way to get known.

Digital communities are springing up around music genres. In the past, musicians would be associated with a particular place or scene. Example: Beatles and the Cavern club. Now, there is less need for bands/groups to congregate at a given place and word about gigs and public appearances are spread through the intarwebnets. You will still get local bands playing gigs and humping their gear around in beat-up old vans.

The downside is that there is a fucktonne of shit to wade through. And I mean a serious amount. The upside is that in theory just going by the sheer number of people producing music now that we should get more decent music to listen to. Its just going to take a while sifting through the music that is unappealing to each of us.

No it doesn't...

Yes it does.

Riveting discussion skills there :p

Then again, there's a shitcreek in pop culture as well. For every great band there has to be atleast 10 shit ones.

Producers really should focus some peeps from their crew to poke around youtube etc, just to find some peeps with real nice talent.

Not only in music, but other entertainment too.
