Point is.. that the address where this was originally pointed (alias email), was made ONLY for paying and subscribing accounts.
Hasn't been used anywhere else.

Is selling email addresses the new next GOA/Wanadoo thing?
You guys doing that bad? :eek7:
Wanadoo is suppose to be a somekinda bank thingy so I dont take light excuses.

I've been fighting spam mail like everyone else and I hate it so much.
But this kinda was the last place I thought it would start.
The damn email originated from Wanadoo itself even!!

(only my own address was edited away)

Wanadoo is also an ISP (I think they even took over Freeserve in UK and it's now called Wanadoo as well) ... there must 100's of thousands ppl with an @wanadoo.fr address :m00:

Isnt necessarily anything to do with GOA.

The email didnt actually originate at Wanadoo. "ce238.24.18.104.rpp7.ka.wanadoo.fr 143.96.36.56" is forged into headers: that IP address is actually in New Zealand. "mail565.dsmiv.wanadoo.fr (149.88.236.176)" is also fake - that IP is in US.

Without the FULL headers of the message its impossible to say where it actually came from, but those sections clearly arent right (which these days is totally normal)

Could be address list 'sold' (or whatever) by email hosting company.
Or just address found via dictionary attack - becoming very common now.

i was once told if you left msn open while you are browsing.. web-sites of a questionable nature.. they could leech your address and you'd start to get all those "OMG GROW 10 INCHES" and "HOT TEEN SEKZ 4U" e-mails. whether or not it's true is another matter. the point is, if it was true, maybe it could have been you were browsing some site with outlook open and yr e-mail got leeched?

very ropey theory.. but you never know ^^

Oh, didnt know that... thought it was some banking thingy they just using..
Anyway it doesn't really make me feel any more secure now that I know my money is handled thru bigass ISP (they all robbers to me).

Anyway, yes my puter is highend and up to date with patches, firewalls antiviruses and youcallit. That address isnt known anywhere else, not associated with msn in anyway, but only in GOA's account lists.
So its kinda alarming still :(

quite possibly a dictionary attack - till recently I had one of my domains set up to forward everything to me....

someone decided to start dictionary attacks on it - about 900 emails a day. Not pleasant.

Not sure if mardan was one of the names they used but it's possible - that or you've had some virus at some point in the past that's sent out a from: mardan?

If it's reassuring at all I've yet to receive any spam on my daoc account email addresses.

I don't even receive spam om my hotmail account.. but I DO receive spam on my private email. Which I find quite odd. And I've got updated virus and adaware scanner. Been struggling to find out how it's possible I'm being signed up for stuff I've never heared of. Most people are victims of other's people's inability to protect their systems :(

Maybe the GOA hacking incident is to blame here ?
Unless you changed your e-mail after GOA was hacked ofc...

Maybe the hackers just copied the e-mail list back then, and now it's out for spammers to use...

Well the email alias for that domain was made long after the hacking incident..
Must be picked off by random or something :(
Wish they would make that shit illegal in every country already. :twak:

its not that hard to code a program that searches various sites for emails etc, so even if goa dont sell their email database, ppl if they have skills and want to, they can get adresses anyway.
