Right then, Ive got a Dell Latitude L400 notebook (which work kindly gave me)

Its not a bad spec, pIII 700, 256 ram, 10gig h/d, but the graphics are, to be blunt, shite.

Its an ATI rage mobility 4 (count 'em) mb job.

Does anyone know if its possible to upgrade the video on this thing??

Ive been to the Dell forums, but they arnt very helpfull, and I cant even find a 4mb rage mobility on the ATI webeh.

This sucks, cos I cant play anything that requires OpenGL or direct 3D. And CS in software mode is wank.:(

Exactly - notebooks are designed to be upgraded (apart from memory and processor, even then its extremely limited)

Buy a new one. I have a C800 and it does alright in the gfx dept, go for a C600 or C400 if you want portability

Well I don't know anything about the L400 but the Inspirons from at least 4000-8100 can have there video boards upgraded, its a bit of a peluva to get it to work.

Check those dell forums again, I've found out quite a bit of useful info on there. The only problem is the ratio of 10dumb laptop users to very 1literate laptop user :)
