When i first started driving i spent fkin hours getting quotes, found cis to be the cheapest by far, they give a %15 discount to new drivers i think...

However, have a couple of bangs and they bend you over in the second year :(

If you are a student they can be quite good, but insurance differs for everyone. Just phone up every company you can find :)

I always found privilege insurance to always give me a quote about 500 quid less than anyone else. At least they only wanted to charge me 1000 quid rather than 1500....

Robbing scum the lot of em.

Just get the yellow pages and phone every car insurance company.

Every year I have to do that, to find this years cheapest quote.
Currently back with BellDirect have been with

KwikFit.
Priviledge
Co-op - (can be very cheap, although you have to go to their local offices to finalize the insurance)

My wife is with Diamond who are quite cheap, although I think the main driver has to be a women to qualify.

indeed this is correct... women *spits*

it's not like there's any insurance companies only for men is it.

as an aside, my sis works for diamond for two more weeks, then goes to work for CIS :p

You could try

Direct Line

Churchill

Elephant

Egg

Natwest

They often give good quotes...

From "Which" magazine

There are several things that young drivers can do to reduce premiums or get cover in the first place
Take out third party, fire and theft cover instead of comprehensive cover as it's cheaper. But remember, third party, fire and theft doesn't cover the cost of repairing or replacing your car if you are at fault in an accident

As long as you don't own the car and aren't the main driver, you could be added to your parent's insurance as a named driver, or you may already be covered if they have a policy that covers any drivers

Increase the excess on the policy

Drive a less powerful car (in a lower insurance group)

Drive a less valuable car

Take some further training such as http://www.passplus.org.uk/

If the main driver is in the UNISON union, Frizzelle offers huge discounts.

for my mum, my sister and me, to be insured on a Y reg Honda Civic - 1.6 litre, is....... 300 quid!

And i'm 18 years old lol.

Would have been about 1500 without frizelle.

I think thats how you spell it, not sure.

I was glad I took out fully comprehensive when my brakes locked and I skidded into the back of a Landrover Discovery, the unique design of which puts the rear bumper level with everyone else's wiper blades, even though the impact was at around 10mph it managed to make a complete disaster of the entire front and wing.

Rear shunts are almost automatically the fault of the car behind, so I had no option, however, they replaced the entire front bumper which was starting to come off anyway, and I only lost 2 years no-claims !

You should remember that no matter how good a driver you are there are often conditions where it's "your fault" even if it isn't. Also note, if someone crashes into you and the car is stolen or unregistered, or they run away and you can't trace them, that's also "your fault", and I've been done by both of those instances too :(

My company owns one of the leading insurers, so I get a 20% discount :)

I shall also add my endorsement to Adrian Flux, I've used them three times after trying somewhere cheaper and getting screwed over at renewal time. Good price, fantastic service.

Trust me, It's not always best to go with the cheapest quote you can get out of the back of Max Power.

Thought I'd dig this up. We decided to get some quotes as Mrs Yuck needed to renew this week. Currently with Bennets, I've used them in the past for performance cars and bikes so she used them too. Quote from Bennets for renewal was £650, quote from Tescos £300 including free Class 1 business use. Outstanding.

Ive found Tesco to be pretty cheap for low insurance group cars, but if you get a more poweful car they will hit you witha £3000 premium, in otherwords they wont want to insure you. But for any normal sorta car they are good.

Elephant are also very cheap, ive actually found them to be the cheapest, however you have to pay up front - no monthly installments.

For a 1.6 type car tesco charge around 800 for me, but ive only just got my own cover, for the past few years ive been under my dads name - that had saved me about £400 on the premium, if you can get insured under your parents name its worth it, unless you want a no claims bonus.

I figured id keep using the car in my dads name until i was the magical age of 25, so that i could then buy my own and work on my own no claims.... didnt work cause my car died recently so i had to go get one in my own name. wooo.

They insured me on a Golf GTi for the sum of 750 quid when everyone else except Elephant were asking for 2k+. Elephant would insure me on a VR6 for 800 :/
