How far do I have to go before I can dig a mine without falling into someones cave system? I just want left in peace underground.

vast swathes of untouched land ! I headed out of town, walked for a few mins & picked a spot. My mine is now huge & no encountered anyone else yet.

What's with the random bedrock building with lifts and bridges in it?

That will be the spawnpoint for new players to the server. And will work like a tutorial area, to see how the mechanics is working

Temeter and diamonds is the one in charge of building that!
