If anyone has any additional murals relating to the Tuatha De Danann specifically, please post pic or URL. Thanks. Looking for one I saw many years ago in a National Geographic magazine. Not sure if it exists anymore.

Just found it ! Woohoo !

No144GaelJ.jpg

Covering an entire wall of a two-story apartment building in Springhill Estates, this mural invokes Irish mythology as allegory for the modern conflict in Northern Ireland, at least from the Republican point of view. In the very center, the mythic king Nuadha rises out of a particularly Celtic landscape, complete with green hills and marshes, cromlechs and megaliths. The circular banner surrounding him reads, "Is é seo Nuadha, Rí Tuatha Dé Danann," or "It is he, Nuadha, King of the Tuatha Dé Danann." In early Irish mythology, Nuadha leads the Tuatha Dé, the original and legitimate inhabitants of Ireland, in a successful revolt against the Fomor, a race of horrible giants from "over the sea." By analogy, the modern IRA and Sinn Fein have prosecuted a revolution against the British, "imperialists" from just across the Irish Sea. The artist, a former Republican prisoner by the name of Gerry Kelly, modeled the mural after the illustrations of Jim Fitzpatrick, such as the example below, who wrote a modern reinterpretation of Nuadha's story entitled The Book of Conquests. Fitzpatrick emphasizes the Tuatha Dé's "nativeness" more than other modern Irish mythologists, including Lady Gregory.

LOL !

You're an officer in the UDF. You see a Republican painting Pro republican propaganda on the side of a wall. You may or may not notice his 12 mates behind the wall / in the house. You may or may not be bothered about getting knee-capped. You may want to get the hell out the area as fast as possible to avoid being shot.

Do you think you're going to get a commendation from the UDF Commissioner for nicking a republican artist ?

Get real :)

Then why would the police even consider stoppinng the painting of murals if it wasn't illegal?
Provided you have the permission of the owner it's got nothing to do with the police, it is however the council's job to stop idiots painting kerb stones red/white/blue or green/white/orange on major roads.

Murals are a part of the landscape in Northern Ireland, painted by both sides as well as by people who's political opinions have nothing to do with the troubles, such as feminists/womans rights protestors/socialists/childrens rights campaigners etc etc
To suggest that they only are around because the IRA is 'running around with guns' is twaddle, quit reading the Daily Mail.

Once again i didn't say that was the only reason. I see your point, and took it into account, but its very doubtful that the police would stop them EVEN if it was against the law. It's not like the IRA were peaceful people anyway.
