Noob question

I have no idea but did Tolkien invent any of the typical RPG characters or did he just use one's allready known.

I hear he wass an expert in Anglo Saxon lore, but did he invent any of the names we use?

like D&D, Tolkien leaned heavily on folklore, so no he didn't really invent anything, except maybe hobbits but I'd have to do some research for that...

He pretty much created the images of the characters, but sourced much from folklore. I don't believe wizards had pointy hats before he wrote that.

I believe Tolkien invented the Orc, but im not sure. Cant think of any fantasy (or other for that matter) writer that used the term "orc" about a creature before him.

He also did create several complete and working languages which is quite impressive.
