How do i change the ammo of my gun, from normal bullets to armour piercing etc...... or from normal nades to plasma?

Alt fire (default is right click) switches weapon mode, and X (by default atleast) switches the ammo type (sometimes univerally, sometimes for that mode). For example the bog standard assult rifle (punisher or something) takes standard or AP rounds in primary fire (and X toggles between them), and rockets, frag, plasma and EMP grenades in secondry fire.

Slightly confusingly, for the Vanu pulsar and beamer, AP and standard rounds are the same ammo, and you use alt fire to switch between standard and AP mode rather than X as with most weapons.

This is assuming you are carrying both armour piercing and standard ammo in your backpack :)

so what you're basically saying is to switch ammo type you need to press 'X', as I already mentioned? :p

why thx, i take it standard is best used on normal people while AP is used on Max?

That is the theory but i've heard the difference in damage between ammo types isn't worth the extra space used up and the time taken to switch. From personal experience you'll never kill a max 1 on 1 or even 2 on 1 with AP ammo as it takes ~ 2 - 3 clips with all hitting to kill one. I have a Striker with 6 rockets for anti vehicle/max.

if you're playing VS, AP bullets are a waste

since they beefed up the pulsar, standard mode does more, or the same damage as AP, excpect against vehicles... but you're not gonna be able to kill a tank with it anyway, so don't bother

for the AI max, they upped AI clips size, and lowered AP damage.... hence normal is now more damage per shot, as well as using less ammo than AP

For shotguns, AP armor is worth it against MAX'es... but I'd go with your empire specific gun and not bother with AP rounds at all

I agree about AP rounds usually being a waste of time. You might want to keep a couple of clips handy though, for when TR MAX units anchor themselves... stand behind them and give them your all! In my experience it takes 2 clips before they can un-anchor themselves (they can't un-anchor while reloading, and if they're zoomed in on a target it makes it even harder for them).

I've dispatched around 5-6 TR MAX units using this method (using VS cycler), it only seemed to take the 2 clips... though they may have been damaged to start with.

One other tip for noobs... don't start jumping around when in a fire fight. Kneel down, to reduce your CoF, and let rip. The number of people who jump around Quake3 stylee in a one-on-one firefight is funny. All it does is increase their CoF, and increases your survivability (ask UncleSick :) the 2-3 times I've bumped into him, he launched into his 'mad bouncing' routine... end was result was I got to look in his backpack)

Eeep... Cadire killed me? Teh shame!:D
And leave my backpack alone, I store all my candy in there!

I never jump, though - I strafe left and right. Which gets me out of one on one's alive most of the time.

I agree. the times that I crouched are usually the times that I died

Well I die whether I stand up or crouch, but I feel more in control if I crouch :)

UncleS did 'leap', but it could have been lag or something, as I see a lot of people doing it.... dang, there's me wondering why they're all doing it... and I'm probably doing it too!

All enemies that bump into me should crouch and fire :) I'll strafe and burst fire while you miss, and your reduced movement speed will guarantee you'll be another statistic in my favour within a few seconds ;)

Just another victim, kid.

:)

Now... which cloaker did I see firing at an aircraft the other evening? Omni... summat or other ;)

Unfortunately (for him), the sniper zoom bug doesn't seem to be fixed, as I could see him clear as daylight in my scope.

Actually shotguns are an exception to the rule. They won't suffer from CoF bloom when moving, so you can try to dodge enemy shots while you let rip. It's a bit difficult to compensate for your and the enemy movement with the low RoF(at least with the Sweeper, JH has 2 times the RoF), since shotgun pellets are in no way instant, but it usually works.
Only time you should ever crouch and fire with a shotgun is at range. One time i managed to kill a Vanu grunt at close to 60m with the Sweeper. He was probably already wounded, yet it was still an impressive shot ;)

you mean even static infils are visible for snipers when zoomed, I've been crouched and not moved for a while because of crowd congestion, then a sniper will take me out. That's not darklight, that's some bug.

If I'm firing at aircraft as a sniper I would be most likely feeling very safe and probably inside a friendly/hacked base as I know I'm not likely to bring down a Reaver/Moz/Lib with my uber AMP :D

Yes Omni... a cloaker running is like a neon beacon in a sniper scope. When they walk they are just a little less visible. When they are stationary there is a faint outline in foggy areas, though none in normal terrain. But if a sniper is tracking a cloaker, it's not hard to guess where they are if they stop... invisible or not.

The bug may be a lag thing (like you sometimes see people running when they're not). Seeing a cloaker run is like painting a target on them!

Surge often gets me out of tight spots or just plain confuses the enemy a lot of the time.
Stealth & surge will regularly let me run right through a group of enemy soldiers engaged in battle and they won't even notice me, possibly thinking I was just a gfx glitch or something. Got in so many sneaky hacks doing that. When I get sniped while surging I just mumble stuff about aimbots and wallhacks under my breath then carry on regardless ;)
