Am about to book a long weekend in NYC for me and a lassie friend and wonder if anyone's got any suggestions on things to do outside of the normal tourist trap ie. Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero (yuk...no ta), etc etc.

We're going to be going to bars and clubbing until 8-10am hopefully so any nightlife suggestions welcome.

Also any hotel recommendations? Looking for 3 star really as I'm fking paying for my mate.

Anything outside the obvious really. Oh my lassie friend is just that a friend so no romantic suggestions pleeeeze.

Paying for mate?
Put mate in 2 star flea pit, you and "Girl who is Just a Friend" live it up in 5 star. Sorted.

You've lost me Nick.

There's 2 of us going - me and my female friend.

Unless you know something I don't!

/edit: I'm paying for both of us - flights, hotel, spending money.

Got confused. You mentioned a girl (automatically thought GIRLFRIEND) then you mentioned a mate (automatically thought er MATE) never put the two together.

Easily done.

Still have a nice time.

Nice lively and fairly sophisticated bar/restaurant is called the China Grill (they do a wide array of bar snacks aswell as having a sit down area), and it's just off 5th almost opposite the Hilton. For a bloody good dinner there's a place called the Bridge Cafe and that's right under the end of Brooklyn bridge... have the lamb, it's to die for :)

Maybe some possible hotel options here, didn't bother checking through it in any great detail tho as I don't know where in New York you want to stay.

(Don't forget that New York State is actually bigger than England so fairly large) :eek7:

Staten Island ferry is a must-do. Totally free and you get some really nice views. Make sure you do statue of liberty as early as possible, massive queue's otherwise :( Watch out for the pigeons on top of empire state building.

Dunno about places to stay. When I went with my olds we stayed on Staten Island where hotel prices are a bit cheaper I think. Can get a taxi to the ferry and 30 mins later you're a sub-way ride from central park.

Never been Myself. Was thinking of Takin the missus and the rugrat next April. I had a look on
Cheapflights

They seem to have had some good deals on 3 star hotels.

£295.00 ea for 3 nights in a 3 star hotel on Broadway

I decided against it after looking into it a bit...if I can't open it at work, I shouldn't be putting it into the forum. I'm supposed to set an example and all that.

Xtro. I went last year and had the helicopter flight. Definately worth it imo. Also believe it or not for the days, the open bus tour thing is good too - fits all the important stuff in quick and you can get off when you want to, to explore the bits you like further (Grand Central, South Port (?), Chinatown , Little Italy etc,)

We did the cruise meal thing too which was good but they asked for a tip for the whole ticket price, not just the drinks, which pissed me off (long story). Ground zero is a must btw - I don't know why,ut it is.

Have a good time but don't get too pissed, some people only get to go once and you don't want to spend half of one of your days in bed being sick!

btw - Draught Bud and double Jack chasers are teh win...(Don't normally like Bud but when in Rome...)
