Dunno if anyone has posted about this or not but IGN.com has been compiling a pretty interesting top 100 games ever. A difficult thing to do trying to mix modern games with nostalgic stuff across all platforms.

Personally, whenever i go back to play old 8/16 bit games i'm a bit dissapointed, but they seem to have judged games in their original, perhaps sentimental context - and nintendo's heritage has given them 5 out of the top 6 places. The most recent games in the top ten are both from '98 - Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Starcraft for the PC.

IMHO i don't think this is fair on current games whose impact on gaming trends can't yet be judged, and they havent been given a fair chance to embed themselves in this often deceptive starry-eyed 'i remember when this was alllll fields' kinda way.

And not having half-life (pc version is all i've played) in the top 10 seems criminal to me. There arent many games that become household names for something other than media sensationalism over videogame violence. The FPS genre is one of the most popular and it's pioneering online gaming, yet the game responsible for rejuvinating it singlehandedly is stuck back in #32!!!

I think sam & max is in there around 70 but no DOTT or Monkey Island games which i thought were better than sam & max anyway.

Guybrush should certainly be in there somewhere.

Maybe a top 10 by genre would be better.
Comparing Sam & Max to Street Fighter 2 to Simcity to Goldeye is impossible.

Yeah, Nintendo aren't that good. I would rate most of the top 10 below most of the PS2 games i own alone, that excludes about 30 PC and about 10 PS games.

Cookies for both of you as you are correct. Where or where is fucking Speedball 2 on the Amiga?? Chaos engine was amazing and I heard rumours of a sequel not so long ago.

Halo IS better than Deus Ex imo. But so are many games.

Agree with StarCraft being really high and glad Half-Life is not. QW should be high up though. Guess I just hate story-based FPS. Stories and FPS don't mix imo. If I'm looking straight ahead at my gun-barrel I wanna see things die. Save plots for RPGs fs :/
