He did that the second he sold his soul to David Cameron in 2010.

The more worrying thing is he said he doesn't care who he is in coalition with. I guess they will just have to adjust their policies to suit (it seems like a large number of Tory/Labour policies are interchangeable anyway). The fact that he's willing to cosy up to whichever of the 2 that gets into power doesn't say much for the Lib Dems as an independent political force, it's not very ambitious.

I dunno, that bit I understood very well. He knows he's not going to win the election, but he wants to moderate the policies of whoever does. If he were "cosy" with the tories, he'd be a tory. Likewise for labour.

He has failed to have any major impact as Deputy PM though, so it comes across as a desperate attempt to cling to what little power he has.

Yup that's how I see it. It's all very well talking the talk at his own party conference but (imo) when it comes down to it it's been mostly Lib Dems backtracking on their own policies rather than having an impact on the Tories.

He wasted a lot of political capital with the AV vote, but has generally played a role in moderating the Tories. Their right absolutely hate being shackled to him.
The question and answer session with Chris Huhne recently had one point I kinda always agreed with - a hung parliament right in the middle of the financial crisis would have suited the purists, but harmed everyone.

Lulz.

If we got bombed by a nuclear power, we'd be foolish to retailiate. It's a losing move for humans either way.

Pointless "deterrent" is pointless. The idea of trident is as effective as the real thing, and as counterproductive.

Iran is desparately striving for this pointlessly lethal tec partly because we've got it. As is every other despot or tinpot dictatorship.

my brother lives in Christ Huhne's constituency house. He doesn't have much use for it these days obviously, so he rents it out.

Indeed. But until Russia and the US make meaningful moves to de-arm, we'd be mad to. It's like global warming and emissions reductions. The UK is a TINY contributor compared to China and the US. There's fuck all we can do about it so we might as well just do what's best for us. It's a very anti social way of acting but it's pragmatic.

Why? It's not like they can nuke us to get what they want. If you must have a nuclear deterrent a couple of ICBM's an a stealth bomber is ample idiocy for the politicians.

That's far from pragmatic - it's self defeating. If global warming is as bad as they say then only good-faith action has a chance of taking us forward - otherwise we rush forward like children into a "mwahhh - he's not pulling his weight" disastrous future...

I agree. They have to do it voluntarily. All such political action is, ultimately, voluntary.

But they will never do it if we refuse. Like children.

Also, when China commits to significant emissions reductions they'll do it much faster and harsher than we would ever contemplate.
