I've just bought FFXI and gone through the extremely painful and longwinded registering/updating process only to come to a server maintenance which lasts till 02:00 CET.

Further more my PS2 gamepad adapter which I bought especially for FFXI works with every game - EXCEPT FOR FFXI! Is this a known issue like the installation problems (which I also have on my second pc).

Yes the installation is mindnumbingly long and painful and the launcher looks like its been made by a blind monkey but its worth it.

Yeah, pretty irritating. Was just about to log in as I got in but realised the servers were down. I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow morning now. :\

No problems with adapter here (using Dualshock 2 pad with XP Pro). Might try "Alternate Setup A" & be sure to mark all 3 boxes under "Gamepad Options".

If this doesn't help , just install Win 2000 , like Eroa did, her adapter refused to work with Win XP (well, she's obsessed by FFXI, but it's worth it, since pad's so much better than keyboard/mouse).

Aye, I bought the game last night as well after countless hours of searching our inadequate gaming scene in Dubai. Having finally found the game in the darkest recesses of a abondened building, I installed it only to find that i cant get a content id. hehehe

Seems my patience constantly gets tested lol

Now to pass 12 hours of umm... whats it called again... umm..... oh yes - work. now to pass 12 hours of"work" so that i can get back home and try to get onto bizmark

Find it hard to belive that it wouldnt work in FFXI if it works everywhere else ^^
Your tech wizz aint you nick you should be able to get it to work trust me if you gonna play it having the controll working is well worth it.
