Well latest nforce drivers are realeased .. i have sent a list with the download locations to Jonty to put into the driver thread.

But with my shuttle ive had problems... on version 2.40 i had NO problems what so ever. Previous version i had the sound in game problem, i would be playing a game and alls fine then suddenly all crackly and poppy.

Anyway i then got 2.40 and all sorted and fine except for the IDE driver problem - wasnt all that bad. 2.41 released AHA i thought said they fixed the IDE problem so yay i downloaded... mistake :(

Now when i use anything that needs sound its stuffed right from the word go - cracks pops the works. Im going back to 2.40. Im not saying dont get it by all means try it but be warned you may have problems.

Deadman: ASUS motherboard?

If they don't fix the crackling problems with this motherboard, the supplier will have the board RMA'd and I will have to resort to throwing my teddy in the pond. I could understand problems like this on a pc-chips motherboard ;), but on a premium product... do behave ;)

Still these drivers may need to be tweaked by Asus in order to work properly.

Bah, irritated :)

AFAIK...the offical ASUS drivers differed slightly coz the MCP had a different ID number or summat from what other Nforce boards used and these new drivers should accomodate that change.

....the supposedly FIXED SW IDE driver still fooked meh PC up tho.

/me gets back to reinstalling stuff

mm, but you would have thought that some serious effort would have been put into getting rid of these sound issues, and despite everyones insistance on the fact its a software issue im still sticking with my opinion that the hardware is rubbish.

I hope i'm wrong but the RMA war drum is getting louder ;)

Has that been officially stated by ASUS or NVidia as I keep seeing people who are adament that it is a driver issue but who are just quoting other peoples posts. Im not in any way intending to offend you but you can see where im coming from :)?

Hmmm I don't see nVidia ever officially stating it is a hardware problem.

2.42 drivers have now been released, this is mainly down to the fact people were having problems with the nForce IDE driver.

http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=nforce_udp_winxp_2.42

Problems are often caused by drivers, even if they're not caused directly by the driver then can normally be sorted via certain changes in the driver.

Screwed my set up with the new 2.41 drivers. The enhanced IDE drivers did it for me.

yep, they really screwed the pooch with their latest driver :/

as to the soundstorm sound issues on the ASUS board, there are two problems with the A7N8X

for one, the codec they use is utter wank... it barely makes the grade for soundstorm certification, they were 1db from failing the dolby testing.

Also, asus decided to route a load of power lines UNDER the codec chip on early revisions of the board design. Which version of the PCB do you have? It's marked by the name between PCI3 and PCI4 iirc.

1.04, i know about its failings, ive read pretty much every critique of the hardware design.

v2 is supposedly better but the crackling sound still arises, however that is what the RMA process is for.
