Newbie Cleric

I started my first character (since beta anyway) at the weekend - a cleric. I have been grouping mostly, but also been doing some soloing. I have put most of my spec points into smite so that I can be an effective solo player as well as heal well in groups.

The thing is, I enjoy group hunting the most and I want good heals and maybe buffs too. What would be the best way to have a character that is a great group cleric, but that can also solo too?

Can I continue to spec mostly in smite and still be a good group healer, or should I start again and spec in rejuv only for my play style?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

By the way, I'm level 8 now - I have already put a few points into rejuv. Is it too late now, or is it OK to have a few points in smite?

What i did is put 3 points into smite at level 5 to get the first insta mez, the rest into rejuv. Im gonna continue speccing rejuv to 23 (or 26, dunno yet) to get the insta heals, which are apparently real life savers . Then im gonna spec smite up to 44 for the last DD smite. If you spec rejuv to 23 you can consider yourself a usefull group cleric, that can rez, heal alot of damage and, if necesary, use insta heals.

Thanks for the advice - basically that means I can continue without rebuilding and not have to worry about having nerfed my template.

I like the insta-mez spell too - if the group pull more than one its nice to get the situation under control for a few seconds

Is there a guide somewhere that explains which spells you get when you level, and which you only get from spec? Thats the only slightly confusing thing for me at the moment - being able to tell what spells I get without spec and so on.

I can't remember exactly how I spent my points, but my aim was/ is similar to yours- be able to solo and be useful to groups. I always kept rejuv slightly higher than smite (2 or 3 levels), and spent spare points to get enhance up to 8. Can't exactly remeber but I am now roughly 23/19 (21 with item)/ 8 in r/s/e and seems to fit in well. You haven't nerfed your character!

I've looked around, and I quite like the sound of this template :

40/34/11 (r,s,e)

Apparently it gets me the good rez and group heals, plus some mez spells which are also useful.

I've got a lv11 Cleric, who specced Smite till lv8 and now I have 7 in Rejuv.

Even with only 7 in Rejuv, my 50hp heal always heals for 50-57, rarely goes below 50. At this level, I can solo and group well

the last DD smite spell is at smite 48, at smite 44 you get last AE mez which is a nice 30 sec instant mezmerise.
