I spent New Years in Dubai. I finally visited Burj Khalifa - the worlds tallest building - which i have to say is bloody spectacular in every sense of the word.

I developed a neck ache before the afternoon was over.

Anyway a few pictures for you to look at.

Nice pics. 2717 ft tall. Wonder if we'll ever get a building a mile high...(5280 ft)...

The viewing deck is only on the 124th which is at a height of 452m and considering the building is actually 828m the view was unreal. I tried to blag my way to the upper floors but failed miserably.

Regardless though it is unbelievable and i would recommend it to everyone as a must see building, it will give you a neck ache after a couple of hours.

Are they all real pictures tierk? Some of the views look so pristine that they're CGI!

Images 15 and 16? They are my own but i had to take the snaps through a very very thick piece of glass which seems to have made the pictures just turn out stunning. They have off course been touched up a bit using Lightroom.

Work is progressing or so i am led to believe by my colleagues working in our Dubai offices but at a really slow rate. It will be a awesome development when completed, far superior to the Palm. Like all these mega projects in Dubai its only when you see them with your own eyes that you realise what collosal enterprises they all are.

Lamp, there are already talking about building another two buildings in the GCC area - Saudi and Kuwait - with potentially more in the future, that will top Burj Khalifa. The one in Saudi is planned at 1 mile.

It is a massive dick swinging contest :)

hehe everytime I see Dubai on tv or pictures of it I expect to see flying cars go past the buildings, it looks like something from the future!

Hay, anyone seen Hawkwind around? I've not seen him for yonks, didn;t he used to hang out there?

Last i heard from him was to tell him when i was next in Dubai so he could be sure to be out of town :D

Only kidding, he has not been on here for a while but i am sure he still lurks.

You missed out the rest of my sentence when quoting - I wasn't inferring you'd CGI'd them, just that the place is so clean/perfect from there.

Very good pictures indeed. Am I the only one who doesn't see the attraction of Dubai though? No history and no historic buildings. It seems like an extremely false place.

There are plans for a mile high building in Saudi Arabia, but I very much doubt it will happen; for engineering and economic reasons (seriously, what would be the point? Its not like Saudi is short of land).

Not everything is about history; I like the ambition of Dubai, even if I don't like the way they've tried to get there (its great if you're a westerner or a local, not so great if you're Indian or Filipino...). Whether it will survive the transition from the oil to the hydrogen economy is the big question though.

If you ever get a chance to visit Dubai it is well worth the stop over. Great places to eat, amazing sites to see, good golf courses - if that is your thing -nightlife - sordid or otherwise - its all there. Not to mention the weather this time of the year and miles and miles of beaches.

Get out there i recommend it highly.
