Am on the verge of ordering new system.

Have configured up system on Novatech:

AMD Athlon XP 1800 (1.53GHz)
Microstar KT3 DDR 333MHz Mobo
512MB 333MHz DDR RAM
Maxtor AS 80Gb Hard Drive 7,200RPM
CD Re-Writer 40/12/40 BURN PROOF
DVD-ROM Drive 16x Speed
1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive
128MB DDR GeForce4 Ti4400 AGP
Network Card - Novatech PCI 10/100
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Price = £831 inc VAT.

Am just wibbling over Graphics card.

If I substitute GF3 Ti200 price comes down by £110.

I really want GF4 Ti4200 but not an option under current config options.

So my questions:

1. Should I bung in GF3 Ti200, splash out on GF4 Ti4400, get cheapo card and buy my own Ti4200 or ring Novatech and ask if they can do me a 'special'.

2. Mobo has onboard sound "Audio - Integrated Realtek ALC650 Chipset (6-channel S/W audio)" is this any good ? Would I be better off with a cheap PCI sound card ?

3. Do I need 350W power supply case or is 300W ok ?

All (sensible) advice appreciated.

Hooli.

1. I would go for a GF4 Ti-4200 bought separately.

2. Go for a cheap Audigy

3. Dunno bout that stuff.:p

I would also (with the money saved on the GF4) up the CPU to Athlon 2000+.

Well the deed is done.

I went for the Athlon 2000 in the end, thanks for the advice Ono

I also plumped for the Ti4400, the missus told me to stop bugging her with such geeky trivia and 'just buy the bloody thing'.

I took this as a blessing to spend the extra money :).

I got a 350W case/supply as well. Thanks C a m a z o t z.

Now when is that Unreal Tournament 2003 due again ?

Me not happy.

My Novatech machine still not here. 15 days now and looking more likely to be delivered after 20 days.

Novatech webby says 10 days:

"Please note your PC may take up to 10 days to complete from time of order."

Buggers waited a week, then rang me to say they had run out of the mobo I ordered (MSI KT3 Ultra). They offered me newer replacement (MSI KT3 Ultra2) at no extra cost so I fairly happy but a bit disapointed about inevitable delay.

So I wait (13 days elapsed now) and then I rang up to find out what's going on yesterday.
I'm told they've run out of the mouse I ordered but 'they'll be in today'. So I think fine I'll have it by the end of the week.
So I ring again today and they say yes they've got the mouse and NOW it's going to be built. NOW FFS. Like they couldn't build it with a different mouse !
So now it has to be built and tested (fair enough) but it's looking like next week before delivery.

Gah!

Should have built it yourself, I did and I've never done one before. Took me about 9 hours total (Friday night, Saturday afternoon). It's also quite entertaining, interesting and useful if you're into that sort of thing. :)

Anyway, hope you get it soon mate.

Yeah, I'm thinking I should've tried.

I didn't cos I lack the skills and patience (I've
managed to dislodge my Slot A Athlon from it's
mobo with a kick in the past).

Ah well.
