New subscription Question

Probably wrong forum, someone move if so.
Reading about the subscription details and one point is that BW need to know the IP number each member will connect with.
Now call me silly (shush now) but every dial up user will get a different IP number each time.

How are they (BW) going to manage this and ensure you are allowed to use the services ?

If this effects connectivity to game servers then surely a problem.

Sure its been thought about, just I have not seen a link to explain it all :)

Oh.. Hello all.

BW detect and automatically use your IP address, but you get the opportunity to enter a different one if you wish to.

You'll find the web interface, BarryBar and BarryLogon all detect and display your current IP address.

I think the IP detection is done on each login, so the BW servers can verify your subscription. Consequently you need to re-login or re-verify your IP if you disconnect on a dial-up.

With this Subscription, do you have to install any Programs?

afaik you *can* have some auto update software, or you can just login through the website. It's all a bit like dynip.org related shenanigans.

BarryBar is the autologin software I believe, if you run that it will log you in and inform BW of your updated IP afaik :)

No sar ur thinking of BArrylogin :p

Barrybar is for quick simple access to the various parts of the BW site.

Barrylogin will auto log u in when it detects an internet connectionm if u so wish.
Otherwise website it is.

Deffo changing that avatar tonight :)

I use Barrylogin (which seems to have very little effect on anything - for some reason I still have to login to the website to do anything BW Membership related - shouldn't that tell the browser who you are or something so you don't have to login?), Barrybar and a large hammer should all else fail.

:)

i think you still have to log into the website regardless of whether you are logged into barrylogon or not, but barrylogon will allow you access to the ftp and servers. it's kind of annoying, all that extra typing, but with a bit of luck they will change that, unless there are some security issues, as they've never had auto logins of any kind on the site.

Ok,

time for some clarification.

BarryLogon: this software is only intended to AUTH you to our system to allow you to play on our gameservers/ftp and anything else we decide to put into Subscription.

Website logon: this logs you onto Membership, AUTH's you like BarryLogon, and if a subscriber, makes Subscriber services available to you from the website.

BarryLogon cannot do that at the moment due to our session/cookies we generate when you use a browser to logon.

They really are two very different mechanisms and I do not want to bloat BarryLogon any more than I have to by embedding or controlling IE/Mozilla/etc from within it.

I notice that my Barrybar says its logging on when I browse for games like Q3 but doesnt actually say logged on, yet I can ping and launch games. Is this normal?

Its a shame something cant be sorted with ASE or Gamespy so that you could login automatically when you fired up the program. I'm sure thats what a lot of people would like. (Me, anyway :) )

If you use Barrylogon you'll still be able to use ASE (or gayspy) to browse the servers as per usual.
