PC world isn't that bad... Just some of the staff are twats. If you know what you're looking for it'll work.

Get Gamah to write you a spec (as he offered) then go to PC World and look for something close. Or get a friend to build, as you'll have the spec-sheet.

Nope. I'm a techie who knows what he's doing 95% of the time. I've delt with PC world. It's cheaper than most places, and it's pretty good value for money. Sure, the staff are twats. But it's not the worst place in the world. (Rather order from there than Dell..)

i would advise getting an 8800 graphics card, they aren't really that much more expensive than the 8600 and are Direct X 10 compatible.

1 - That is not LGA775 compatiable so wont fit to a core duo.
2- There is absolutely no point in buying an aftermarket cooler for a core duo unless you want large Oc's. As the supplied intel cooler is FAR better than any other stock fan and significantly better than many cheap aftermarket fans. The stock fan is more than adequate for a 600mhz OC on a E6600

Other wise a good spec :)

Sound Blaster® Audigy® SE with 7.1 Surround Sound: £15

The audigy SE is the same as the somewhat controversial audigy 2 'value edition' in that does not have a proper hardware DSP chip on board. This means all the sound processing is done by the CPU. These are in my opinion absolutely the worst pieces of shite on the market. You are better off in most cases to just rely on the onboard sound from your MOBO. If you want to save some CPU cycles however then go for a cheap proper soundcard like the audigy (non 'special edition' edition! ) or Audigy 2 (standard or zs). They shouldnt cost much more than an audigy SE.

ZALMAN CNPS9700 NT TRITIUM SUPER AERO COOLER (£44)

Thats a very nice cooler, one thing to consider with it however is the aerodynamics of the case. The 9700 blows the air across the MB rather than away. As such, the case should be tailored for air intake at the front of the case and air exhaust at the back with the 9700 posistioned to match that air movement pattern. If your case is designed with the standard side vent with built in case fan and little in the way of front and back then a cooler like the one mentioned by Raven , i.e.

Zalman CNPS7700-ALCU Super Flower Socket 478, 754, 940, 775 & 939 CPU Cooler £14.19

is better in some cases (and much cheaper!)

That said my point above still stands, it is only worth buying an aftermarket cooler if you plan on 600+ mhz oc's on a E6600. Otherwise the stock supplied fan is more than good enough, and guessing from your comments about PC building Im thinking it safe to assume you arent.

I have to agree with the other posters. My GF's parents bought one, and never have I seen such a poorly constructed PC.
- There was no thermal paste used whatsoever..
- The ram was not placed in the correct slots.
- There were cables all over the place.. they couldnt even be arsed to use a few 5p plastic cable tie downs. On top of that they may aswell have welded razorblades throughout the inside there was so many sharp edges!

I appreciate they are primarily a reseller not a system builder but that doesnt mean you have to sell crap..

I have only ever ordered from Overclockers once, 2 out of the 6 parts I bought were faulty (mobo and graphics card) - bad luck I guess. Graphics card was replaced quickly but I had to wait a month for the mobo. I was not amused.

They were out of stock on the mobo, if they wanted to guarantee customer satisfaction they should have upgraded me to the next mobo (which was about £5 more expensive) and shipped it rather than me having to wait all that time.

They've saved £5 but lost a lot more in my business, I won't buy from them again.

Ok so youve had a bad experience you cant blame the staff at pcworld as they just sell it, blame the ppl who choose what to order at pcworld, or do you expect then to check every pc before its sold.

I dont blame the customer service staff and didnt say I did. They are just like the rest of us working stiffs trying to make two ends meet. The fact is the PCs they sell are in most cases rubbish because they are made to be cheap not good. PCWorld is a bulk retailler and that is their chosen demographic. High specs but bad build quality PCs are piss easy to sell. High quality PCs with high price tags are very hard to sell to anyone who doesnt know alot about PC hardware. Walk around any PCworld store and 99% of the PC's are loaded with generic components hastily constructed on production lines. unless someone wants to spend the minimum they can on a PC I would never recommend shopping there.

Ahahaha - yes I expect them to check every PC before it's sold, that or employ some no-good monkey to do all the checking in his sparetime :fluffle:

If you want a CPU that is extremely hot with about 25% of the OC potential of a core duo then yeah the 6000-AM2 is a good choice :flame:

p.s. on a more serious note if you want a decent case (which you should be looking at if you are spending 900+ then go for a 'lian li' or 'silverstone', both are far superior to thermaltake.

i wouldn't touch an AMD with Gamah's atm. Hopefully they will get their act sorted out, have always used AMDs and Radeons in my computers, the PC that i have ordered (comes tomorrow!!!) is the first one i have built with an intel cpu and an Nvidia gfx card.

always had AMD processors... but if I was buying one today, would be a 6600 dual core intel, sorry but even being an AMD fan, intel are pissing on them at the mo.

Hmmm talk about luck... A mate of mine has offered me his PC for 500 notes as hes now getting the new Dell XPS.
He builds his own PCs and he built the one hes offered me about 6 months ago.
Spec:
AMD 4400 x2 duel core
NVidia 'BFG' 7900 GTX 'OC'
2Gig of Memory
Creative Fatality Sound card

Hes a good friend and i know he hasnt really used it alot either since hes got his Xbox.

Will this be good enough to play all the latest games on full settings etc? Hopefully this PC should do me for a couple of years anyway but i just want to make sure im ready for Warhammer when it arrives next year :)
I can always upgrade the core components later anyway as my mate has made everything really upgradeble.

Sound a good deal?

Im gona buy this to go with it too ready for Warhammer :) : http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3326668/Asus-MW221U-22-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/Product.html

No it doesn't sound like a good deal because it isn't :p You could build it new for less than that.

Spend £150 odd more and get a top notch PC

and drop AMD in the vat of puss they deserve! :p
