my other laptop ran very well and had next to zero problems.

I have now purchased a new laptop (i7) suppose to be the best thing out.

Now the problem...

When playing DAoC the game keeps pausing every 10-15 seconds for a second or two and then repeats itself constantly.

My 2 year old laptop never suffers from this.

But for some reason this new top of the range PC suffers from this problem.

any ideas?

Have you checked if it happens in other games too? If it doesn't then we've narrowed it down a bit, if it does - we've excluded problems with the game itself.

Stuttering makes me think about HDD, or in some cases ram. It might be as simple as some included "monitoring" program, or anti-virus program deciding to scan every file in use every 15 seconds or so but it's hard to say without narrowing it down.

could be a gfx card compatibility issue, I suffered the same symptoms with Warhammer Online and WoW when I built my new PC however everything else was fine.

Check your Battery settings are set to High Performance and modify the High Performance setting to be just that

Most likely it is your gfx card. Make sure you are running the right drivers. Uninstall everything about it, and get it right. I had a similar problem with my laptop when it came to DAoC. And it showed out to be my GFx drivers.

It was like that when I got here...

Is it a Nvidia card? I had to switch to ATI because the drivers for Nvidia started screwing up DAoC.

The graphics card that come with the laptop is the following:

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
Driver date: 26/06/2010
Driver Version 8.741.1.1000

I'm not too clued up on the driver side of things, could som1 find me an upto date link for the graphics drivers?

This is what the laptop system information is (which most of it means nothing to me):

OS Name...Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Version...6.1.7600 Build 7600
System Manufacturer...Hewlett-Packard
System Model...HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
System Type...x64-based PC
Processor...Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
SMBIOS Version 2.6
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)...4.00 GB
Total Physical Memory...3.93 GB
Available Physical Memory...2.50 GB
Total Virtual Memory...7.87 GB
Available Virtual Memory...5.97 GB
Page File Space...3.93 GB

Base Score:

Processor: 7.1
Memory (RAM): 5.9
Graphics: 6.7
Gaming graphics: 6.7
Primary hard disk: 5.9

I hope some of the above will help :)

I changed it as you mentioned to ...high performance...and it still was pausing during play...

I've rebooted the system completely and without installing the Nortons package that comes with it and just incase I changed something I shouldn't off before.

As above I also think its something to do with the graphics card.

Ok I think I found the problem.

I been checking in the Task Manager and ended process on the following file:

Catalyst Control Center: Monitoring program

file name called: mom.exe

I ran DAoC and I got no pausing at all.

I really dont want the hassle of opening up task manager and end the process each time I want to play DAoC.

Would anyone know how to remove it completely?

Would setting the priority to low solve the problem?

It helps a little but the problem is that as soon as you reboot the PC everything goes back to normal.

so the only answer is to remove it completely

start > search > msconfig > uncheck mom.exe from startup/services might work, can't guarantee that it's there though, it isn't on my stationary computer using Win7 but my old XP laptop has it.

Sounds like we've already fixed this problem, but for anyone reading this with similar issues, I can recommend trying QuietHDD. When playing WoW on my laptop I get regular freezes for a second or two. Some guys on an owners forum recommended QuietHDD and that fixed it.

Hiya, my problem is still there, although its not as bad as it was due to the msconfig and unticking the relevant boxes.

So far I have updated the drivers and toned every possible setting for graphics to its bare minimum. I have changed the Battery for high performance as mentioned previously.

Thing is I dont understand why I'm having these problems because the ratings out of 10 piss on my other laptop and my main PC which is at home.

Old laptop - Graphics 3.4 (onboard basic graphics card)
Main PC - Graphics 5.4 (1gb graphics card)
New laptop - Graphics 6.7 (1gb graphics card)

Anyway, what is QuietHDD I never heard of this.

Fixed it!!!! Finaly!!!!!

Ok heres the thing.

I put all the settings to its bare minimum, including graphics on daoc.
After spending 5 days trying to fix the problem and still no joy. I then thought about the 3D settings...

So, all I done was goto start - control panels - hardwar and sound - HP 3D DriveGuard - disabled...

After I done that I put the graphics things ticked using msconfig and then loaded DAoC up and logged in straight away knowing all the settings for graphics has been put to its bare minimum.

Was running ok and infact it was running near perfect. I then thought OK maybe its best to reboot the PC as I thought this cant be right so I had to be sure.

After Reboot I then logged back in DAoC and yes it was perfect again. So I then logged off and went to options to upgrade all the graphics to maximum and to my surprise it was all set to its maximum even though I havn't adjusted anything manually.

Moral of the story is... I found that you do not need to download any programmes, adjust anything within the computer or game... But the only thing you will need to do, is disable the 3D DriveGuard, thats all...
