why is it that new PC games are more likely to come on DVD now? not everyone has one or can afford one, including me :( just what is the idea behind this?! they have now narrowed down the people who can buy it so surely will lose more money? i would also think its more likely to turn people into piracy (downloading them) because they cant afford to buy a drive just to play a game.

Most PCs have been coming with DVD drives for the last four or five years now I thought.

Lol. Just buy one and shove it in your PC, they can't cost that much. You gotta get with the times, man! ;)

A new PC costs £35-£40
A new DVD Drive costs £35-40
A new DVD Drive/CDRW combo costs £45-£50

Don't buy one of the games and get yourself a DVD Drive. Simple really.

If they were in the hundereds of pounds I could understand your point.

For the same reason floppies changed to CDs, I'm glad I didn't have to install UT2004 from 6 cds personally.

Games on DVD is a godsend.

I'd always hoped for a DVD release of BG2, but alas no. :/

Ebuyer sell standard dvd drives for less than £20, which isn't bank breaking as far as drives cost.

Yeah, and you can get dvd rom drives cheaper than 32 quid.

Edit: on checking overclockers, you can get a 16x dvd drive for 15 quid.

I installed it from 3,000 floppies. Nobody forces an upgrade on me !
