has anybody had any luck with these?

My brother recently dl'ed them and they totally screwed up his comp and his geforce DDR, in the sense that they killed all his games, and those that run did so at about 5 FPS.

I've just got a normal geforce by guillemot, but i'm still not sure.

Anyway, if ne 1's got em tell me how they went, just so i don't up killing my own system.

I think i'm running the 4.0.12 (i think it's like this) drivers, but this may be the .10 ones. Whatever they are they're 2 (i think) below the new ones. (I'm at uni now so I can't check em)

I only recently got a GeForce card (big upgrade from the Voodoo II), and the trick I was told was to change your device driver to the DEFAULT DISPLAY, reboot into this mode, apply the new reference drivers, change the device driver, reboot, and voila.

Then all the little clever dlls and drivers and stuph will be updated.

Did your brother do this?

1 for tug

hi, tug, got a quick question bout the geforce cards and it is this- my m8 has just bought completely new system and has offered to swap his geforce(dunno if its ddr or what)
for my voodoo3 3000.
Would the geforce perform better than me voodoo3?
i have a amd k6-2 450 with 128mb ram.
think it may be a cheapo moboard tho.
were there any incompatibility probs with k6-2s?

cheers, brock

Yes swap it m8, if you end up with a DDR you'll piss all over a V3 :)

I got rid of a V3 2000 @ 175MHz for a DDR GeForce 1 and my q3 fps doubled :D

Hey, i run my geforce 2 on the new Abit KT7 raid mobo, it's the most stable chipset gfx card setup iv'e had since my V2 back in the day, the new KT133 chipset is the dogs, 6.43 drivers are stable, anything but a geforce just don't cut it anymore:)

yeah, my bro did all the deleting of the old drivers etc, before the install.

I, personally, just stick the new ones over the top and I've never had a problem before.

He might have a dodgy geforce though, cos the supplier drivers work fine, but the detonator ones totally kill it. I was just wondering if anyone else had this prob, if not i'll install em as usuall.

B careful m8, most of the boards that support the K6-II are alladin v chipset, if your mobo is alladin v (alladin5) then the GeForce will cause all manner of problems, both in 2d and 3d, the worst case of 'geforce rejection' that I've heard of was the pc booting and once in windows dumping HUGE coloured rectangles all over the display, which kind've makes it unusable...

Would a GF (especially an SDR) give that much of a speed increase over a V3 on an old K6-2?

Not lots really, no. But when it comes to selling it, the geforce will fetch more cash hence that's why I'd swap none the less :)

A DDR would make about... 25-30% improvement @ a guess over the V3

Nope, it's because the agp isn't stable enough on the alladin5 - check the nvidia website, it's not a supported chipset and even with the new GART it doesn't work well...

It works alright tho, basically... because it *works* full stop :)

The new gart drivers for any SS7 mobo should solve the majority of vid problems you may be having.

Are you trying to offload a load of asus p5a and k6-II's at the moment or somthing, for an old and defunkt format you're adamant that they're top-notch

Not top notch no, but I could quite happily fuck about with one that doesn't work and make it work :)

well what happened on my bro's comp is that when it booted (with the detonator drivers) the minute it got to windows starting it reset the computer - putting it in a cycle of start-restart etc. He's screwed now cos in safe mode it won't let him uninstall the drivers meaning he's gotta wipe the whole lot, windows and all.

Silly really.

So New drivers on a guillemot geforce on a athlon will be ok then?
