I cant see any good coming from it - the cartoons have not been published in the UK and any protests by peacefull moderates will attract a following of extremists who will get all the media attention which will further increase islamaphobia.

Well I very much hope it goes well - it seems like the intentions of the organisers are just and I hope for their sake that extremists don't steal the limelight. Though I suspect that foregone conclusion.

How can you say the intent of the organisers is just. Bullshit. There should be no need to have rallys/protests anywhere for a simple satirical cartoon, which incedently was published something like 5 months ago!!! We don't see christians holding protests everytime someone depicts Jesus throwig up the horns or some shit.

These protests would get some media attention, sure. But the organisers know that there is a good chance extremists will take them over and give their cause even more media coverage.

In case you missed my point, this is all fucking nuts and people shouldn't take things quite so seriously. That includes me and my mini rant here.

No doubt if the cops arrested them all they would find a lot of illegal immigrants.

Smells like another George Galloway publicity stunt to me.

You just know that media whore will turn up, either at the event or giving endless TV interviews.

BBC News said:
Organisers also said it aims to dissociate the mainstream Muslim community from a "minority of extremists".

That's how I can say it's just.

It would be nice to see a protest denouncing those who commit terrorism in the name of Islam.

I won't hold my breath.

i dont condone the cartoons, but i dont see why islam should be special in not being satirized (sp?) in the press.

plus people seem to forget, or don't know, that the cartoons were actually published back in september - why has it taken until the last few weeks to have all these protests??

It's just a fucking excuse for a load of freeloaders to have a protest and make themselves feel important. imo of course.
They are using their rights to freedom of speech to protest against our rights to freedom of speech, I do believe thats irony.
You might notice I'm getting a tad nationalist, I'll be voting for whoever has the best "keep 'em out" policies next election.

they are perfectly free and justified in having a peaceful protest - and from what coverage I saw, it was just that. So where is the problem?

We're perfectly free to print satirical cartoons of their religion and their religious leader - so where is the problem?

These guys disagree:

I'm normally of the view that everyone should just try and get along, but upon hearing about these protests I immediately thought, 'go back to where you came from'.

While that may make me sound like some sort of horrible BNP fanboy, I really do think that if these people (The ones that were protesting with extremist signs, as shown above) can not accept the nature of our western culture, then they should leave it.

However, I'm all in favour of peaceful protests against the newspaper, sans signs threatening death to the infidels. They have a right to that.

well under new laws probably being voted into the books this week anyone who even thinks about writing one of those signs can probably be hanged naked at noon in trafalgar square.

Perhaps they should tell that to the people holding entire countries responsible for the actions of a single person.
Until then, I hold any religious person responsible for the downfall of King Size Mars Bars.
