New mouse recommendation?

All,

I'm looking to replace my mouse (an OEM USB MS Intellimouse [not optical] ) with a black mouse to match the rest of my hardware/hi fi. Ideally, i'd have liked exactly the same mouse but in black but i can't see it anywhere.

Can anyone recommend a good, black gaming mouse? On my other PC, I have an older MS Intellimouse with Intellieye which is positively shit for gaming: if you move the mouse too fast you end up looking in the totally wrong direction as it gets confused. I don't want this to happen, but a lot of people been saying the newer optical mice are brilliant for gaming.

I did see the razor boomslang in black, but that's kinda pricey for a mouse.

Check your settings and surface with your intellimouse optical. I have the first one (explorer v1), and it is amazing for gaming. If you make small sharp movements then it accelerates the movement, this isnt bad for gaming, it's good. You can for instance in fps games, perform very quick turns.

If you want a black one and for gaming then go the with the new boomslang -although I haven't heard from too many people with it.

Logitech MX-700 - Wireless/Optical.

Not black, but silver with black/very very dark navy base.

Oh God it's good.

my view

I've got MX700, MX500 and MS Intellimouse v3.

MX700, heavy, aint as responsive as cable.
MX500, very nice feel, drivers a little poor.
MS Intellimouse 3, very nice feel, very responsive.

I'd say clear from the MX700, and take your pick between MX500 and MS. Both are wonderful for gaming (with the MS one just taking it for me). Cannot recall either skipping during games ever (tho I know what you mean, I've had MS ones, v1.0 and 2 that used to skip something awful).

(not to say MX700 is a bad mouse, for general windows work its quality, but any lag in gaming is bad, and the MX700 whilst being the best cordless I've used, still suffers)

Cheers for the help guys,

The Logitech MX-500 is the one i'll go for, it has multiple buttons, looks great in black/silver and seems to get the thumbs up from you guys - well, the MX-700 does but i think i'll go for the cord, as i'm a keen CS player and I'd notice even a little bit of wireless lag.

yep, i just remember reading on the MX-700 thread that hardcore gamers might notice it.

TBH, i play a lot of CS tbh, but 'wtf' at the wallshots tbh, that i could pull of tbh with a cordless one as opposed to a wireless one tbh. for some reason tbh, people can tell i play CS by the way i post tbh.

 tbh

I'm what people would call a hardcore gamer. Trust me, its lag free. That's the only reason I still use it.

I had a Intelli thingie optical before, and it was good, but too light. The MX-700 is nice and weighty, no lag, and five buttons (8 buttons really). What more do you want?

I'm sure the MX-500 is good too though. Its just not flash enough.;)

OK, I got all them mice free from the respective manufactures. I'd be disappointed if I'd spend the money on the MX700.
I gave it another go this lunchtime during our wolf lan games at work. Only took me about 20 mins to get sick of it and swap to the MX500.

Again, other may love it, but I'd suggest either try before you buy, or get it from a shop with a good returns policy.

I have to admit, I found it very hard to adjust to at first. Took me two days before I liked it. Then again, I'm like that with every change of mouse. I'd always recommend going with a shop with a liberal returns policy. Your mouse, keyboard, and monitor are the most important parts of your computer, you don't want to get anything you don't like.

If i worked for MS, you think Logitech would be giving me free gear? I work for a software company, but not MS.

Just got my MX700 today, after overclockers finally decided to send me a working one (they suck for customer support btw, just so you all know).

It's very comfy, very aesthetically pleasing, and there's lots of handy buttons but I can't for the life of me get a comfy mouse speed. It's like, too slow when moving all the way across the screen, but for minor mouse movements it's too fast.

Tried turning on acceleration and turning down the sensitivity, but that feels totally weird.

Still, I imagine once I get used to it, it'll be super.

Hmm.

Will, on my MX700 the mouse wheel doesn't seem to work in games. Tried Viet Cong and Unreal 2, both no luck. I've tried fiddling with the number of lines it scrolls per roll but no luck. Any ideas?

(works fine in IE, and funnily enough works fine in Quake 2 too.)
