I use Netscape 4.5 and the "New" things never change. Is it ok in IE?

hmm it's a bit tempremental in Netscape 4.04 as well...

Also does the board remove the New tag after you've actually read the messages or just visited the board ?

Its a bit buggered in NS.
In IE it removes the new tags once you've read the stuff. It never removes them in NS.

Also, you have to "reload" threads with new posts since your last visit to get the new posts.

Essentially, its fucked for NS. Oh goody.

Darn it. And this one looked like the best candidate so far.
In IE it doesn't wipe the 'new' symbol straight after reading but it DOES all change once its reacessed / refreshed.

Hmm,

Been playing with NS 4.04 and I've just about got it working by messing with the cache settings.

It wasn't exactly scientific so I can't say precisely how to fix the problem but it now marks the topics correctly when I reload a page for whatever reason.

Guess thats a start.

What cache settings are you using in NS 4.5 Ted ?

The new indicator doesn't seem to be disappearing from ie5 here.

Logging in and out a couple of times seems to update it to the correct icon, not an ideal solution but it works

I suppose the easiest solution to that is a handy mark all read button like barrysworld has on its frontpage then.

Well technically thats what loading up the main page does, if you don't read all you want to in that visit it wont be highlighted the next time...

Unfortunately these boards are a product which have long been developed; rewriting to offer the same functionality of the 'new' bits on the news and columns pages would take a while...

Hmmmm, still think a nice list of new messages like the old webboard is in order. But, we cant have it all can we?

Trojan, there IS a list of all Topics with new messages. Its almost the same thing and works just aswell considering you always see the whole thread in here.

Seeing the whole thread can also be a bad thing if for example its 100+ messages and you just want to read the few new ones at the bottom of the page.

Now, I think we're all familiar with the phrase "You can please some of the people all of the time and All of the people some of the time".

We're all also familiar with the phrase "Lets get Skeeve and take him outside and throw him under a bus!"

Its almost poetic that they both seem so apt to me right now

I think the new board is ok. It's a "little" harder to work with than the old one, but hey, if it uses less BW resources that's fine by me.

Cheers
