New Harddisk problem.

Hi,

I know someone who bought a new harddisk as the old one was a 15gb HD, but the thing is that after they connected it and formated it and have installed Windows XP pro on it, it just starts up again, asks for CD and when they put the CD in the whole setup process starts up again from the beginning.

Anyone know what might be causing it?

The new HD is a 200gb Western Digital HD.

Yes, after restarting when the initiallset up completes don't hit space when it asks for the cd the set up process will then complete.

If you hit space when it asks for the cd the second time you're just gonna go over and over the set up because it will just boot off the cd again instead of the hard-drive.

Yeah I know, but according to them it won't budge from the DoS screen unless they put the CD in, and if they have put the CD in it automatically starts the install procedure over again :-/

Check the BIOS, and see if the Hard Drive is selected as boot device ?

Yep id say 99.9% its not got HDD set as a bootable IDE device.

What BIOS have u got one ur mother board ?

It's not my hard disk so I wont' know..

But they fixed it, but the person managed to install the graphic card drivers before installing the motherboard, so now the screen is black and they can't use the computer ^^

I don't know what's causing the black screen though, I just asumed it's due to installing the graphic card before the motherboard.
