New Graphics card

Well I couldn't wait any longer for GF3 prices to drop, and will they really drop that much in the next 6 months....? So just been out and bought MSI G3Ti500 Pro VTG card.. mmmmm luverly. A big step up from my aged (but reliable) Voodoo 3 3000. Now this card comes with shuttered 3D glasses, not tried them yet as I'm still at work, they a gimmick or what? IF they work it could add a a new dimension (pun intended) to CS.
You guys ever tried 3D?

BTW its got overclocking utilities bundled in the box ffs ) I need to start playing with my Abit softmenu options soon methinks, must .....order.....more......fans

I currently use 27.30 drivers with a reg hack that shows an extra panel under advanced, this allows me to oc.

ic, so would you say that was better/easier (reg hack eww) than uping my fsb or using the stuff that comes with the card?

Yep...plus the cards own drivers often only get updated after Nvidia release the ref drivers.

upping the fsb is a system overclock and is really unrelated to core/memory speeds, personally i'd do both...

as to drivers/card overclocks it's best to use nvidias reference drivers and use the coolbits reghack to get the most per4mance.... keep ahead of the pack!

OK, installing this card didn't quite go to plan.
switched off pc
Took out old Voodoo card
Installed new card
switched pc back on
windows detects that it needs VGA driver, so let that happen
insert gfx card driver cd, select drivers
install chokes, can't remember the file that it choked on sorry.
so reboot and try to reinstall drivers, but now windows hangs on windows loading screen with blue bar not moving, but small hd activity every 10 secs or so.
put voodoo back in
try installing new drivers from cd, but now they are not listed on the cd menu on screen
can't remove new drivers from add/remove progs because not listed.
so get the detonator remover app.
this gives me a list of the found files, deleted all those.
try installing from cd again, drivers not listed as before,
so try reinstalling new card, windows still hangs.
and to top it all my FD is fooked so until i get a new one can't even reinstall windows cus need boot disc (98se btw)

I guessing that I need to reinstall windows, which I can do but would prefer not to.

Any gems of wisdom?

First of all I believe you are suppose to remove your old drivers before you remove your old card and set all the settings back to the kind you would have in safe mode (680x480 in 256 colors).

What I would do is boot into safe mode (asuming you can) and try removing all the drivers from there. Then boot back into regular mode and download the drivers from nVidia (they are slightly less bulky than the manufacturer's drivers) and try installing them. I believe the current det4's are 23.11's but I'm not posative.

FYI non of the above worked
The only way I could get the card to boot to windows was in safe mode 16 colours.
I guess windows had got fooked, so I did what I've been putting off for ages and reinstalled windows.
Card is working fine now (shhhwing btw) and going through that arse job of getting everything back just the way I like it.

mmm, when I overclock my card, it freaks out, I get speckles and crap on the screen! The strange thing is, its actually a Golden Sample which means its garunteed to be overclockable!!!


Anyway when its overclocked the performance increase is mininal! Wierd!
