New graphic card creating lag?

I bought a new graphic card (XFX Gforce FX5500 256mb) some days ago, about a week.

I had a Geforce 4 TI 4200 128mb before, and it was okay, but couldn't play the new games as the card is quite old.

Thing is, I've gotten some weird lag with the new card, that I've not gotten with the old one, I've double checked too.

Attached file so you can see for yourself the lag meter.

Anyone know how to fix this? I really like the new card, as the graphics do get alot better, but the lag kills me.

Thanks.

my wife has the same gfx card as you and also suffers the same lag.
i have tried every trick i know to optimise performance on her machine but the stuttering remains.
her last mark on her perf meter is the same as yours, a constant triangle.
if you find a fix please post it as she is driving me insane with her complaints about her computer :(

Thing is, the FX series below 5800 is actually less powerful than the TI series :/ At least as far as i can remember the TI4200 outperformed the FX5600 in benchmarks when the FX cards were introduced, and im guessing the 5500 isnt even up to 5600 standards.

afaik that was only the case with the 5600... it was "special" :D
I've got a 5700 chip, and it's awesome.. (atleast, price/quality comparison etc... and no, I don't go by benchmarks... if it looks good, it looks good... and you don't see the difference between 90fps and 80fps anyway..)

the 5200/5500/5600 all clocked lower than a ti4200 on benchmarks the 5700 and higher however far outperformed it.

The geforce fx series are terrible at running direct x9 supported games which could be the reason you get this lag. It's the same for other dx9 games, run them with a fx series card and you get horrible fps at high resolutions with anistrophic filtering or anti-aniliasing on.

Now if you try a geforce 6 series card from 6600gt/6800LE/6800NU/6800GT/6800Ultra they do not have this issue at all and if they did when you were playing then the other thing it most likely would be that is causing it is your hardrive.I have athlon 3500, 6800GT and 1gb 500mhz ram, before i quit daoc in november i had horrible fps on keeps or large raids.(i knew this wasn't right as my pc was top notch at the time but my hardrive sucked, was maxtor 80gb diamondmax(?) about 4 years old)

Sold the hardrive bought myself a seagate barracuda 7200rpm 200gb, daoc ran sweet as hell for the last few weeks before i quit.

I would take it back and get a 6600GT or 6800LE(these are extremely cheap now and A LOT better than fx series geforce cards.)

I've got the ASUS v9570 /TD 256MB running my games at 1280*1024 and with daoc with every gimmick activated, and never have any fps lag, well, except the 3 seconds after logging and zoning..

Did you uninstall the graphics drivers and reinstall 'm again after inserting the new card?

Good point, always use something like Drivercleaner before switching gfx card, especially if you switch from Nvidia to Radeon and vice versa.

Sycho's right, the FX cards do DX9 Apps in semi-Software rather than hardware, cause they got less pipelines etc, and older versions of the shader engines. Some games let you force older versions of DX which would improve things, but DAoC don't (sept running SI client ofc)
