New Dets?

Seems to be some improvement, but that could just be me imagining it. Certainly don't seem to make things any worse...

Anyone tried those other drivers (cant remember their name)? They supposed to look visually nicer than Dets with only a small performance hit

I'm using them now, seem good.

What settings should I use? I always forget what the best setup is :)

Vsync on/off?
Anti-aliasing Off/2x/Quincunx(?!)/4x/4x5
Anisotropic filtering off 2x/4x/8x

Any other random tweaks?

VSync on, AA on either Quincunx or off, depending on what res you like to run in, AF off.

At least, thats what I use. If you turn on AA, turn on texture sharpening too.

Cheers Will, any other tweaks I can make?

There is a registry key floating about that allows you to software overclock your card. But I don't have it at work for obvious reasons.

Will's settings make a massive improvement visually. I've tried them before. No noticable performance hit either.

Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak]
"Coolbits" = dword:FFFFFFFF
"NvCplEnableHardwarePage" = dword:00000001
"NvCplEnableAGPSettingsPage" = dword:00000001
Paste that into Notepad and save it as det40x.reg, then double-click.

Only tested with 41.09 drivers.;)

Your video card might melt, but nothing more dramatic than that ;)

It'll add a new page to the advanced driver options, letting you change the AGP settings and software overclock the card.

Does that registry key work fine on the latest dets before I melt anything?

You mean buy a new card? :p

I don't think I['ll bother, you've all made me too paranoid

It'll probably work fine, but I've not tested it, so the smart thing for you to do is make a backup.

I'll wait for someone else to try it, I don't want to break anything ;D

Ive installed the new drivers, I seem to get about 300 less on 3dmark 2001.
However Ill persevere fora bit, bit of BF1942 playing is in order i think.

I didn't notice any difference between these and the old drivers.

Just a side note about 3DMark2003: to protest at what nVidia saw as a 'synthetic' benchmark, they modified certain driver releases (42.67, 42.68 and 42.69) to give a higher reading and thus illustrate how flawed the benchmark suite is. These versions have since been banned by Futuremark, and whether nVidia has included these 'optimisations' in the latest drivers is, as yet, unknown. However, if they removed them, it could explain apparent the drop in performance.

Kind Regards
