new cs player-help on console &maps-please

recently installed cs 1.0 at christmas. been getting the hang of it.but I am pulling my hair out trying to get the console started. also i have been trying to download maps but everytime its done downloading it says it can not open and then disapears. I am getting ready to jump!!!!!!!!!!!! Ive been spending hours looking around. Somebody PLEASE HELP!!!!

I think you're in the best place to start looking; Barrysworld has loads of info on CS, including console commands. My shortcut to CS is
D:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -nointro -game cstrike
so ammend your shortcut properties to this, then in game press the ` (key to left of 1 on keyboard) for console.

As for downloads, are you letting the game d/load them as they are not found? (bad move) Use GoZilla or similar and d/load from an up to date server. I believe the best maps are included on CS1.0 disc, certainly enough to get you well into the game! Good luck.

The console key may not be the one next to the 1 - in some cases (I'm not sure why) its the # key (right of @ left of ENTER).

I guess I am not sure how to do a shortcut with the console? The maps that I have with cs I can see in the files but when I want to play that map on the internet. Eiether I get disconnected or its starts to download with a bar at the bottom of the screen. And this takes for ever. sometimes it wont let me on after that! Is this normal? uggg!

For various reasons i bought Counter-strike HL yesterday (i needed a valid cd key ok!) and found that it was missing 5 maps that are included on the d/l version. This included some of my favourites, arabstreets and final option. Nad also god awful crap like highrise.

where can i find a list of the console commands???? I appreciate any help that you can offer.

J these are all that i know...

listplayers

vote (then the player #, it votes them out of the game)

listmaps

votemap (then the map #, it votes for a new map)

name (then type in a new name if you want a new one)

I am a newbie, there are probobly a lot more that i dont know about!

Remember all these have to typed in the console
