New Car?

I always said that when I qualified as a nurse I would treat myself to a new car... However now that the time has come I have to say that I am a bit apprehensive about it. The question is do I really need a new car? Answer: well not really my ickle car is a good little runner (Nissan micra, R reg, 1litre), but I just find it a bit boring and I am contemplating the idea of a sports car. Now I know absolutely nothing about cars and being female I am more interested in what it looks like than what it can do. My other concern is cost I am already paying £120 per month for the loan I took out to pay for my previous car. Although I can afford to pay for that and more at the moment I don’t wanna land myself in debt in the future. I would be looking to sell my current car but I am not betting on getting a lot for it. Anyway I am quite interested in the new Toyota Celica (yes I know a pricey machine but I luv it) Now SAS's answer to it all is just go for it... well yep that’s fine but get the impression all he is interested in is having a girlfriend with a flash car :). My concerns are that we don’t live in the most desirable place in Plymouth and that some little fucker will scratch it (already happened to my current car). My other concern is that im not sure how I would get on driving such a massive machine (I know that I can test drive but im a wimp :( )

Does anyone own one of these? If so can you give me any advice?
Was just wandering what everyone thinks?

actually Tom has an Audi TT he wants to sell.

I know nothing about cars myself, other than the ones I like based on looks tend to be quite expensive :( however you saying celica made me think mazda mx* or rx*, honda s2000, fiat barchetta (had one, they're yummy), fiat coupe coupe, audi TT, that kind of thing. cars tend to be less steeply priced in old blighty so I can't comment on that. good luck!

Thats the tricky one... can you afford a place with off street parking maybe?

Any new car gets envied but sounds like a sporty job in your area could be a red rag to a bull?

Unless you have a garage I wouldnt consider a flash car. I dread parking mine in any public place now. At my last house my car used to be parked out on the street. I think the bumpers were hit no less than about 15 times from people who cant park, the wing was driven into, it was broken into, etc, etc, etc. When you think its a minimum of a couple of hundred quid for any repsary it soon mounts up.

A mate of mine who owns a L reg Mitsubishi GTO (so its not even spanking new) is selling up after a couple of years of having his car spat on, broken into, etc. The final straw was when some scroat walked over the roof and has dented the roof panel.

Its upto you, but personally I dont think Id get another flash car after my current one. I think Id go for something sporty but non-descript. It also scares me on the RX-8 forums about the number of incidents of RX8 and Nissan 350Z owners getting their houses broken into at night and hastled for the keys. Apparently the newer uprated security is meaning its much easier to threaten people for the keys than to break in. I cba with it all now tbh...

My bro had a saxo had it done up to the bollocks was in max power and everything and it got broken into once they nicked the £400 sony stero (wasn't one where you could take the front panel off) :( so he sold up and is just running round in a not so flashy Honda Civic.

Unless you live in a decent town with no chavs i wouldn't bother getting anything flashy it might seem good for about a month but then like someone said ***** will start scratching it and basicly doing anything thats gonna make it look bad.

Take the advice and just buy something like a Clio/Corsa, you really don't want a car thats gonna get noticed thats when smack heads start looking out for it.

Give up driving until you have acquired a penis successfully.

:D oh my god, sorry that made me laugh lots.

I like the Celicas, it was weird hearing you call it massive. I always thought they were quite likkle. Lovely looking cars and really good handling, but not so fast.

In all honesty(and this is something I've learnt over the years) the newness will wear off after a month or so and you will be left with a car that isn't so exciting and a big debt.

Stick with yours for a while until the debt is gone.

Aye, as it is people are wary of Micra drivers. Getting another car would be like putting a Nova driver behind the wheel of a Ferrari. PURE DANGER!

I think the new Celica is old man. There is also fuck all room in them (height wise) and unless you buy the 190 bhp version, they're fuck all point in it.

We bought a T Reg Megane Sport a few months back as the Mondeo was a pile o' shit. Had it about 3 days and some scrote threw up all over the windscreen, the roof and even managed to get some on the rear window. Would have been funniy if it was my neighbours car.

Anyhow, the car wasn't my first choice but I actually really like it. Quite nippy off a standing start and enough room for the baby, shopping pram etc.

Haven't had any problems with it whatsoever and would recommend it as cheap yet decent enough car. Oh and it's quite small so easy for women to park (Missus can even park it with in 5 minutes now!).

Venus my advice is not to buy a brand new car. By all means treat yourself to something nice, but try and get something thats more than 2 years old.

You can buy my TT if you like :) I'll do you a special FH discount.

hehe :D

they nicked a £400 stereo from a Saxo - did it half the value of the car? :)

G'wan, post some pics of this barry mobile.

venus,

count in the cost of running the car.

For a sporty model read :

high insurance (especially with little or no no-claims discount)
High maintenance (prices for parts for these cars are sky high)
consumption - usually these cars are thirsty buggers
fuckwit magnets. These cars usually attract the twats that like to damage expensive cars.

Stick to the small inexpensive cars until you have built up control and some roadsense. By that time you will be too sensible to buy a expensive sporty car and therefore saved yourself a fortune.

What would you rather have? A Fiesta, Saxo, Corsa, or the Triumph?

I had a '74 GT6. Evil handling, slow, constant battle against corrosion, dreadful dreadful car. They do look quite swooshy though.

I''d take a stock Saxo VTS over that old rusty piece of poorly cobbled together shite any day.

Cos I'd rather have a Golf GTI 16v than a Saxo VTS perchance? I mean I don't recall you giving us the Golf option, which is obviously the one I would have taken.
