Right, the TVR hopefully will be gone in a few days, so I need a new car.

I'm after a motorway muncher, diesel would be nice, aircon, toys, and preferably estate.

I'm thinking Volvo V70 (old shape) as I've had one before and it rocked, also Saab 9-3 TiD hatchback, any other recommendations? Don't want an Audi, I'm still annoyed at the way I was treated over the TT.

Oh, budget is no more than £5000 - I want to keep it cheap for a while and save up for something nice in a few years.

An old Benz E-Class. Bulletproof, good diesels and big mileages don't matter. People who've got them (especially estates) tend to keep hold of them. Other than that, your Volvo's a good choice if you need something that big; I'd also look at Passat TDi's, although of course if you don't want Audi, VW is probably also a problem...

How about:

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WW...category=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200543212213826

2001FORD FOCUS 1.8 TDi GHIA
ESTATE, Y reg. Silver, fFsh, MoT and Tax 07/06, e/windows/mirrors, r/c/locking, r/boot release, alarm/immobiliser, e/seats, pas, abs, air con, stereo, recent service, including new tyres, excellent condition and clean throughout. £5,000.

Meets your requirements by:

1) Diesel, so economical and decent low end torque for motorway munching
2) It's an Estate, so plenty room for your kit
3) It's the Ghia, so it has (basic) toys
4) Exactly to budget

It's also taxed/MOT'd, it's in silver (so it hides dings/scratches) and generally silver paintwork looks much better than other colours for longer. An older Ford will also be very cheap for parts and servicing.

Probably doesn't qualify but I am getting a Honda Accord Type R on Sunday. I am so bloody excited after driving this bastard Corolla since I sold my Impreza.

I suppose anything Honda will be reliable Tommeh.

Actually a bit harsh on the Corolla, its good at what they are meant (taxi) for and is uber reliable.

Is that a diesel estate car under five grand?

Theres a couple of Volvo V70 2.5 diesels around in the autotrader, I'm strongly tempted to go for one of them. The engine is relatively old, but it can be chipped, and it will also run off vegetable oil :D

Not diesel but you might be able to pick up a Volvo V40 estate 2 litre turbo for that price now. Still has decent load capacity decent performance.

BMW have just announced an M5 Touring. I think that's your answer right there. Might wanna get saving for the extra 60 grand you'll need, but just think of that V10!!!
